Snails

by bavaria on July 5, 2012

I am in France at the moment.   Land of wine, and beautiful, but very rich food.

I couldn’t live here, as much as I would like to -  I would be the size of a barn in a matter of months.

The Seven Year Old takes after both her parents in the “wanting to try every kind of food in the Universe” department, and after following a tantalising waft of garlic and chilli peppers, came across these in the food market yesterday.

She was so desperate to try one, but I captured her expression (she has post-swimming pool hair just in case you’re wondering!) when the snail was finally uncoiled from the shell and revealed in its entirety….

Not quite so appealing after all.   She didn’t ask for any more strangely enough…

Back to normal posting capabilities soon.

I can’t believe you’re after my falafel when you’re in the land of croissants and cheese!! And lovely, garlicky snails :) Gold star for The Seven Year Old, I am totally impressed by her spirit of culinary adventure.

Anyway, I am very, very envious, I love France. Have a wonderful time :)

I couldn’t agree more, and the Seven Year old will join us on that verdict too now I think! :D

Hahaha – what a great expression. I don’t blame her in the slightest. Eewww is the only correct response to eating snails ;) Hope you’re having a lovely time in France!

oh, but you have to give it to her for being the bravest, most adventurous seven year old eater ever! *clap clap*

Am very impressed she at least tried it. I suppose it’s something you have to grow up with to find appealing. Yuck yuck. Though, I will admit an urge to try whelk, which in fact is just a large snail from the sea, n’est-ce pas? ;)

Oui c’est vrai! Whelks are just as unappealing to me, it’s about the only thing I am fussy about to be honest, although I do like a nice jar of cockles :)

Bless her… Her face said it all. I told her she didn’t actually have to eat it, but she’s stubborn like her Mother! :)

They are mahooosive!! No wonder she looks very slightly apprehensive! I remember as a kid eating the very British winkles…they were a fraction of the size and we prised them out with a needle and dipped them in vinegar. I loved them at the time…but those? No thanks! Lol.

When I spotted them I thought they didn’t look like the French snails I remember, I actually think they were “cleaned” garden snails… I know she hates them eating her sunflowers but I don’t think this form of revenge will be taken again! :D

hahahahahaha! that is so funny. I’m not sure people have the stomach for these until at least their twenties (that is excepting the French of course!).

I remember thinking, I must take her picture while she enjoys these… Or Perhaps not! Thank you :)
