Do the cows actually still wear them? We used to see them a lot in Switzerland (we had two or three summer holidays there when I was a child).
They do indeed, in fact I heard plenty of them clanking about in the mountains this weekend, (just got back, hence this is so late!)… :)
I’m intrigued..what are they?
Cowbells, and in all shapes and sizes! :) xx
Cowbells? Quite a collection.
Too many to choose from! Thanks Erica! :)
Fab picture as always, I love the cowbells and the light is fantastic!
Thank you! Funny how something so common in one country is completely appealing to someone from another country! :)
Ding-a-ling! Are they for sale?
They are indeed! :) I was going to get one, but we didn’t go back past that way! Next time! :)
Great quirky shot- really like it.
Thanks so much Sonya! :)
Oooh so glad you had tagged them as I couldn’t guess what they were. I was thinking pots of some kind. As ever a fab photo Emma xx
I guess you could use them as pots if you turned them upside down! :) Thank you! xx
gorgeous – did you get one?
Not this time, but I am planning to! :)
What beautiful cow bells!
They really do make the cows look like Milka Cows! Thank you! :)
oh what are they for?
The cows wear them in the mountains here, it makes it easy for the herders to hear where they are! :D
Cool! Glad you tagged it! Steeped in culture…..
xx Jazzy
Thanks Jazzy! I have been very steeped in culture this weekend, it involved lots of steep moutains and huge gatherings to celebrate the cows coming down to lower pastures in time for winter. Will report back soon! :) xx
intresting shot, love the colours, what are they tho? some sort of float?
They are traditional alpine cowbells! Thanks Sarah! :)
we would definitely hear you coming!
Yes, you would! I actually think these would be great for kids to wear, to help us keep a track of them :D
Oo what are they? X
Cowbells, lots and lots of them! :) x
Cool – what are they?
An old fashioned tracking device! :D
Ding dong ! L♡V it
Thanks Helen! Ding dong indeed… They make a right blinking racket, well they did where we have been this weekend! :D
Gorgeous photo – the light is fab.
Thanks very much Ellen! It was beautiful light on the day, so I was very lucky! :)
Beautiful shot, the light is fantastic.
Aw thank you! :)
What a rich image, the colors, shapes and textures! Interesting that this old time way is still in use… thank you for sharing on Weekly Top Shot #48!
Thanks for the lovely comment Madge! :)
Beautiful image
Thank you :)
Great picture, I love it x
Thanks Dawn :) x
Love them, reminds me of the goat bells in Greece!
Thanks Fiona. You are right, something so nice about it… My Mum was telling me about an article she read the other day where some people moved to Austria and complained about the noise of the cowbells. An alpine version of the UK story where city people complain about cockrells! :D
I don’t think I’ve seen any before. Thanks for sharing.
You are very welcome! Don’t worry, there are plenty more to come after the big festival I saw at the weekend :D
I love this shot. It’s not one that I would have thought to take. Great shot.
Thanks very much Betty, you are very kind :)
Great image. I would like to put a bell around Bibsey’s neck sometimes to help me keep her out of mischief. Is that wrong? I’ll get my coat…
I wonder if they actually did use them in days gone by for keeping track of their kids as well! :D
That is a great shot! I could use some of those tracking devices to keep track of my goats.
Thank you Teresa! There are plenty of tiny versions for the goats here too! :)
Kuhglocken! I had one in my classroom back in the US! Love them!
And now I know the proper name! Thank you! :)
oh, i’ve always wanted one of these, emma!
Thanks Pia… Me too, beautiful aren’t they? :)
Love it! :) Feels like home! ;)
That’s good! Thank you :)
