Our first Christmas in Bavaria was lovely. Bug-ridden, but lovely. Yesterday was the first day that any of us felt up to doing anything remotely energetic after the week long lurgy that decided to join us for the festive period. Suffice to say, after a week’s hibernation, the idea of going for a nice long walk to get some fresh air wasn’t exactly met with much enthusiasm from the Small People. After a bit of persuasion we managed to turf the pair of them out of the door, albeit with rather a lot of complaining on their part.
Luckily Mother Nature handed us plenty of distractions along the way, which meant that before they knew it, both reluctant walkers were actually enjoying themselves…
We hand-picked window panes for the Ice Queen’s new castle…
Searched for Moomins, and the much maligned Groke in the deep dark woods. We know you’re in there somewhere…
Had long and meaningful conversations with new Alpine Friends with grassy noses…
Caught glimpses of what might have been Heidi’s House far in the distance…
Imagined fairy weddings in the tiny and beautiful church that stands alone in a copse on the top of a hill…
Then after all that, magically conjured up enough energy to run homeward bound (when the car was finally spotted!)…
And when both grown ups collapsed exhausted, a small voice piped up with “can we come again soon” from the back seat, which made it worth all the effort in the first place.

Thank you Mignon… We have snow on the alps, but only in the 3/4 weeks or so… It is snowing heavily as I type this though so maybe this is the start of winter finally!

What a lovely walk – worth the week indoors! At least you have ice, it is far too mild here – really missing last Christmas’s snow. x
bavaria says
So are we… we had some, and then it melted! Hoping it comes back soon! xxx

Ah that made me feel very nostalgic for walks with my boy when he was little. I did get him out of the house yesterday but only to go to the sales!
bavaria says
That’s why I chose to ignore the moaning and whining Trish, because I know that one day (one day!), I might just miss it! xxx (Did you get anything nice in the sales?)
