Catching up with best friends…
Apologies for the lack of frequent posts of late, things have been a little quiet on the blog front admittedly, but not without good reason.
A ten-day trip home full of birthdays, a wedding, and celebrating the surprise and very welcome engagement of my baby sister, left little time for me to even think about opening my PC, let alone publishing any half-written posts I had scheduled (something that had me cursing the fact that I had to lug it around everywhere – it took up valuable tea space!).
Add to that the fact our time was split in two different locations, so whilst one set of days were filled with city appreciation, gorging on food stuffs in short supply here (fish and chips, decent Korean, English pub food!) rowing on the Thames (not for long, the tide was against us!), cricket admiration (of the willow bat variety, not the jumping) the other set was filled with countless country walks, family history lessons (on behalf of my wonderful Grandmother) and a spot of minnow fishing – of course!
We also managed to re-acquaint ourselves with much-loved spots, and a few much-loved persons too (although not enough for my liking, there really never is enough time!).
The introduction or reintroduction of countless English things to my offspring is something we all look forward to when we go home, and I loved taking the Seven Year Old to my most favourite statue in York Gardens, Twickenham. I used to bring them here when they were tiny babies. Even he appreciated how beautiful it was, before asking if he could do a spot of minnow fishing in its waters.
Other discoveries included scampi – they wanted to know if it was an animal (hardly surprising given that their mother thought a haggis was some kind of creature at a similar age), and on me reading out a menu to them wanted to know what on earth a “hamandegg” was!
My favourite of the lot though was perhaps on the day we went rowing. The Seven Year old pointed out a bird bobbing along on the river and enquired as to whether it was a duck. I know we are quite landlocked where we are presently, but it was actually a seagull.
It will never get easier when it comes to leaving day, but all in all the usual mission to patch up those important soul plasters was just about completed.
And so now we are back, almost rejuvenated, and raring to go. The new school year awaits, and with that comes a full-time job for me! So whilst I get back into the swing of my first full-time position in years, I have plenty of scheduled posts that I promise to find time to complete and publish, plus a beautiful guest post from a good friend of mine that I will be sharing with you too.
Bear with me please?

My summer was crazy, too, as we’ve moved back to our home country. I’m still surrounded by boxes. Good luck on the new job.

Thanks Michele, and good luck with the repatriation too. Hope all is well! :)

So many people are away or busy at the moment that you shouldn’t worry about needing to catch up with blog. Now that I’ve done the ones I felt I had to do (where hotel accommodation or tourist boards had offered me extras) I can just relax.
Just this little catch-up has given us a flavour of what you’ve been up to xx
bavaria says
Thank you Trish. It’s for my own benefit I guess too as one day I will look back and wonder why there are such big gaps in it! :D xx

Sounds like you have been having a glorious summer. The ‘hamandegg’ made me chuckle. How beautiful is that statue! It looks familar to me, so I’m wandering if maybe I have visited it before as a child. I’m not sure.
Lovely catch up post xxx
bavaria says
Thank you Mama S! :) Hope all is well xxx

All good reasons to let blogging slide for the duration. Even from a back view I can suddenly see that your kids have grown up so much since I started reading your blogs. I don’t know why I was surprised as it’s been three years but I was. When do kids go back to school in Bavaria? Enjoy the rest of the holiday. xxx
bavaria says
They really have, where does time go? They pretty much match the UK system in terms of holidays! You too xxx

No apologies needed – sounds like a busy summer(trust me, I know!), and very exciting about the new job(congratulations!) Loved the hugs for the dog – our first order of business as well – and will look forward to catching up as you find the time.

Thank you! Hope all is well and that the important “back home” shopping has arrived! :) xx

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. I always like going back home and doing all the things that used to be completely normal to me when I still lived in Germany. When you don’t have the chance to do them all the time, they become so much more special x
bavaria says
That’s so true. As do the people when you don’t see them! :) xx

I know, but I think I am ready for it. Just need to be more organised! :D (ha ha!)…
