I haven’t been organised enough to join in with The Gallery so far in this blog, but having seen that this week’s topic is about one of my favourite things – I had to make an extra effort!
Light. It can make or break a picture in my opinion, whether artificial or natural. It can tell you so much about the photograph, even down to what time of day it was taken, or what time of year.
A friend of mine who is a real photographer (not just a pretend one like me), taught me not to be afraid of it, but to experiment with it. Take photographs in to the light for example to see the effect that it gives. Don’t give up if you don’t get a good picture, eventually you might end up with something you like…

Oh, that second one is fabulous! I also love the orange sunlight through the trees in the third one. Great shots!

I initially thought #2 was taken somewhere like the Planetarium section of a science museum – it’s very galaxy-esque (if that’s a word). Starved for Spring as I am right now, I’m going to have to say #3 is my favorite. I especially love that early morning sun shining through the leaves. If I’d tried to do that, I would have overexposed the whole thing, I’m sure! Loved them all!

Thanks MsCaroline! It’s very galaxy-esque when you are in there too! If you look closely, I am sat in the middle with my 4 year old – trying to take a picture and to stop him falling in the water! Glad you like the pics! Emma :) x

Thanks Sarah… My Camera isn’t top of the range (I would definitely break a really expensive one), but it does what I want it to do and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it! It’s a Canon G11, but I think the 13 is out this year :)

(i love the first photo too – the koru of the fern and the symbolism of new life…)

What is the second one? I love the vibrancy of the others as well. x
bavaria says
Thanks Emma ! It’s this amazing light installation by a Japanese artist…. Done with mirrors, water and a darkened room… the lights change colour while you are in there and it’s just really strangely moving! Emma :)

They are all good but that second one is something special.
bavaria says
Thank you. It’s probably one of my favourite pieces of art, and I love the title – Gleaming Lights of the Soul – it’s by Yayoi Kusama. Taken at Louisiana in Denmark last year… :)
