A strange thing happened at the weekend. We had a night out in town by ourselves (which is bizarre enough for its rareity), AND we had a great Mexican meal at Milagros, a restaurant on the corner of the Viktuelianmarkt. The words “Great”, “Mexican”, and “Restaurant” don’t get put together in a sentence all that often outside of Central America, and you will find that poor excuses for Mexican Restaurants are much more common instead, all primed with the tactic of plying customers with cheap booze, so they don’t eventually notice or remember how bad the food is (are you listening “Mexican Cantinas” of Copenhagen and London whose names I could mention??)…
Anyway, Milagros is good. Really good. The fresh ingredients are prepared in the open kitchen in front of you, and the smell of the cooking will have you both salivating, and reminsicing about travels of yester-year as soon as you walk in the door. Having already visited with a friend, I had a heads up on the menu and swayed Mr R to opt for the combination of chipotle salsas, freshly smashed guacamole and some dip type thing made from pulverised pumpkin seeds. I have no idea what it was called, but it was delicious. All followed by a generous ceviche. Then onto the mains with Steak Arrachera and some Chicken Enchiladas with a mole poblano sauce with chocolate. Because we are truly greedy we also managed to force down some gorgeous churros and pretty decent espressos…
And then off we waddled to enjoy the rest of the beautiful summer’s evening in Munich.
Milagros also serves quite possibly the best (and the biggest) Margarita I have ever had in my life. This swimming pool sized beverage might have been responsible for the surreal things we spotted along the way. I am going to blame it on the tequila…

Looks and sounds like you had a fabulous night.
Thanks Natalie… It was fabulous! If not a little odd :)
are churros the french chichis – I love those.
Even warriors must buy new warrior things sometimes!!
I do believe they are the same by the looks of google…Lovely aren’t they? Yes, I guess you are right. It was new penknife time! :)
sounds yummy! you can’t beat a good margarita… i used to go to a wee mexican in inverness when i worked up there – the dishes all came in 4 strengths – mild, wild, wicked and fully committed – the fully committed was the “steam coming out of the ears” kind of hot! some very happy memories…
I appear to be addicted to chilli, the fully committed sounds good :) Thanks Sheonad xx
Are the churros the things in the picture? I was in Petticote Lane (or was it Portabello Rd? can’t remember) Market with a friend over Easter (my one child free day out) and they were on offer at all the coffee houses. I ordered them with hot chocolate as my friend explained that you dip them in the chocolate. I regretted ordering them about a minute after I had because really I prefer cheesey things or chips… but in fact it was delicious. I never got a margueritta though :(
Yes they are… Really bad for you I imagine, but so very good :) You have given me an idea now = churros dipped in margarita, then in chocolate! :D
What fun! And I had no idea Munich was so full of quirky corners – the perfect place for a mellow, post-margarita and mexican stroll :)
Thanks for the lovely comment Mary, Munich is incredibly quirky, but in a good way :)
ooooh those churros look fantastic. I want to visit Munich!
You must. PS. I am always up for churros with friends :)
Oo the food sounds amazing and the margarita looks divine, you will have to take us there when we visit. Yummy! I know exactly which photo you were talking about, very funny!!!! xx
To say I saw this and thought of you, would be an understatement :) See you soon xxxx
Wow wish i lived near you that sounded FabUlous
That would be nice :) It was a great evening, thank you :)
Some great pictures, in spite of (or because of) the alcohol. :)
Thanks Erica! We just saw some really odd things and both wondered what they had put in the drink! I didn’t actually feel that innebriated :)
I so love reading your posts: gorgeous food and insights into a foreign country. Perfect.
A lovely comment Trish, thank you :)
Margaritas and Mexican food. It sounds like my perfect night. I got very drunk on tequilla a long, long time ago and it took me many years to get a taste for it again. But, mmmmmmmmm.
Luckily, I have never experienced this tequila overdose of which you speak. And I thank my lucky stars for that, I hear it’s not good! Gosh I am glad I was so sensible in my youth (!)… :D
oh my gosh that margarita looks inviting! I dream of an evening like this – so fab. I am such a sugar freak that the churros is right up my street.
I went back for lunch last week, and they had Run out of Churros ingredients!!!! I was so upset :D
