I love our cowbell which I’m sure isn’t a real one but we bought it on a trip when we lived in Germany. My boys would try and kick a football at it as target practice! How I miss that sound now they are too big. Also it now hangs in my laundry room so I would be rather cross if I heard it go now! Elinor x
I bet you it is real!! There are thousands of them because they still use them every day in the mountains! :) My Grandparents have a huge one, I think it must have belonged to a monster cow, it’s just too big! :D x
Thank you Debbie! It’s called an Almabtrieb or a Viehscheid depending on whereabouts in the Alps/which country you are in! I have a post coming up soon on this particular one! :)
They are normally completely free to roam Fiona, this celebration is at the end of summer in the Alpine regions, when the cows (and goats too!) are welcomed back down from their mountain pastures! :)

Fabulous photo! I’m now thinking I need to make floral headdresses for my cardboard cows! If I get time I might just try :)

That would be fabulous!! There’s the most incredible Playmobil Alpine Viehscheid set. I might have bought it and kept it as a Bavarian souvenir! :D x

Hi Emma, what an amusing and lovely photo. I have no idea what festival this is, but the cows seem to be taking it in their stride!

What beautiful mellow colours those cows are! So different to the ones in the UK.
Emma says
Thank you Nell! They really do look like they come from the Sound of Music a lot of them! :D x

I understand why the Hindus worship cows, there is something magnificent about them – even when they’re not in fancy dress.
Emma says
They are gentle creatures aren’t they? Thanks R! (:

Thank you T. Not strictly queens, but they do look like them don’t they? :)

I love the cows and the decorative markings on the head decor. Wish I could watch the parade.
