With two children, quiet weekends are as rare as hen’s teeth. \u00a0 \u00a0Not in the “not much going on” sense, for I usually covet those, but in the peace and quiet sense, and most of the time I wouldn’t have it any other way (it still puzzles me how both are able to easily sleep in on a school day but can be up with the larks on a weekend however!)… \u00a0 But once in a while (and believe me with no family on our doorstep, it really is once in a while), it’s really nice to have a weekend away sans enfants… \u00a0 \u00a0A grown up weekend – quiet in the truest sense, peaceful and restorative, and with no routines of any kind. \u00a0 Perfect (thanks Granny for coming to stay and looking after everything so well!)…<\/p>\n

Sofitel Bayerpost Munich<\/a> has to be the perfect location for such a weekend, and we were truly spoilt by them with an upgrade to a Duplex Junior Suite for our anniversary. \u00a0 I think my first words when I saw the room were “I’m moving in”…<\/p>\n

The downstairs was more than comfortable and stylish, with a Bose system to plug into, and a Nespresso machine to keep us wired, fresh flowers to admire, and my absolute favourite aspect of the lot – the floor to ceiling windows looking out over night-time Munich (when we arrived)… \u00a0 \u00a0I actually insisted on sleeping with all the blinds open (much to the annoyance of Mr R) in the hope that I would wake up early for some sunrise appreciation photography, but instead we woke up in a giant cloud on both mornings.<\/p>\n

I left the huge blinds open so I wouldn’t miss the sunrise over the city. Instead I woke up in a cloud… #sofitelmunich<\/a><\/p>\n

Still eerily beautiful though, and still completely peaceful – for although the Sofitel might be next door to the Munich’s main train hub, we didn’t hear a peep.<\/p>\n

The gorgeous 19th century Renaissance fa\u00e7ade of the Bayerpost could tell a story or three – the clue’s in the name – it used to be home to the Bavarian Royal Post Office, but inside it’s about as contemporary and avant-garde as you would expect from such a hotel group. \u00a0 If you look closely though, there are enough echoes to remind you that you are staying somewhere historic – somewhere historic and central. \u00a0 I love this area of Munich anyway as it reminds me of London in so many ways, but you can’t get much closer to many of Munich’s main attractions.<\/p>\n

We had intended to have a couple of (quiet) grown up lunches in Munich restaurants we’ve been meaning to visit for a while (we did manage one amazing dinner – more on that shortly!) but the breakfasts here proved so magnificent and vast, that any lunch plans quickly went out of the window thanks to our inner Augustus Gloops that just had to keep returning to the fresh waffles, pancakes, the tea bar, the juice bar, and on the Saturday morning the Prosecco bar (well it was our anniversary!).<\/p>\n
