A little interval in Berlin posts for something festive – a Seasonal Schloss for your perusal…<\/p>\n

Don’t be mad, but I will admit to being a little “Christmas marketed out” having lived here for four years now. \u00a0 Towards the end of our time in Denmark I felt the same way about Tivoli too, having visited countless times; but that doesn’t mean that I am not a sucker for a unique Christmas Market, or one that’s in an unusual location. \u00a0 Definite favourites are Tollwood<\/a> (which isn’t strictly a Christmas market) as it’s so different each year, and the market on the tiny but beautiful Frauen Insel<\/a>, and now this – the Christmas Market at Burg Trausnitz<\/a> in Landshut.<\/p>\n

Perched high above Landshut, this 13th century castle (once the seat of the Dukes of Bavaria) had a distinguished past up until the 18th century, when it became various things including a prison, a barracks and a cholera hospital. \u00a0 Nowadays it opens its doors to visiting guests who can explore its \u00a0medieval halls and ancient chapels, before stopping off in the 15th century restaurant for a bite to eat (or if the weather is feeling kind, outside in the bier garten at the back to admire the spectacular views and appreciate the bier of course!)…<\/p>\n

And at this time of year, for a couple of days, Burg Trausnitz serves as a spectacular backdrop for a spot of seasonal shopping, and festive face stuffing opportunities. \u00a0 The easiest way to get there is by the laid on park and ride buses by the way, ensuring that you miss the wrath of livid old local ladies (we didnt know there was a park and ride)…<\/p>\n

Sadly, as the old saying goes all good things must come to and end, and this market is already over and \u00a0done with for another year, but should you be thinking of visiting next Christmas, put it on your must see list. \u00a0It’s definitely one not to miss.<\/p>\n
