\"Berchtesgaden\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The amount of our visitors who have expressed surprise at the beauty Bavaria has to offer, and have said that they had always previously thought of Germany as a grey and uninspiring country, will never cease to amaze me.\u00a0\u00a0 And a little like my determination to stamp out the myths that all English Food is bad, and that we Brits all have terrible teeth, M’Lud, I present these pictures of Beautiful Berchtesgaden<\/a> as my first piece of evidence.\u00a0 It’s little wonder that a huge amount of historical figures (!) enjoyed spending time here, it’s truly stunning! \u00a0 My last Silent Sunday<\/a> was taken there too, for those wondering.<\/p>\n

We took a boat out across the emerald Konigsee<\/a> itself, together with a pretzel eating dog, fighting children (not mine for once) and a Captain who stopped the boat in the middle of the lake, to play the trumpet.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It seems that everyone apart from us was expecting this to happen, and you could almost hear a pin drop as he raised the trumpet to his lips and played a tune, only to have it answered beautifully by several echos from the surrounding mountains.<\/p>\n

We stopped to have a look at St. Bartholom\u00e4<\/a>, the beautiful domed church that takes precedence on the water’s edge on the other side of the lake.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Certain people thought that the domes looked like chocolate teacakes which made them hungry, and insisted we stopped at the rather gorgeous Bier Garten for a drink and a snack.\u00a0 Somehow The Five Year Old ended up with a glass of buttermilk, quite traditional here, but he wasn’t altogether that keen on it.\u00a0 Thankfully there was nothing wrong with our bier, and apart from all patrons being periodically frightened to death by large conkers dropping onto their tables, all was well.<\/p>\n

A quick paddle in the freezing lake afterwards, all of us stunned into semi-silence by the gorgeous surroundings, we then headed back to Konigsee.\u00a0 This journey could have been relaxing, but the Seven Year Old was desperate for the toilet, and this particular boat was incredibly slow.<\/p>\n

All essentials taken care of, we then spent the afternoon admiring the view, eating ice-cream and buying unsuitable items like wooden catapults with Konigsee inscribed into them (for the time being forgotten about on a high shelf), thanks for that one Grandad.<\/p>\n

A beautiful place, and I would highly recommend a visit if you should be in the area.\u00a0\u00a0 Did I mention it was good for shopping?<\/p>\n
