The Five Year old has never been overly fussed when it comes to ice cream.\u00a0 I would go far as to say he’s actually incredibly fussy about it.\u00a0\u00a0 He can’t be fobbed off with any old muck, and quite strangely would rather not have it at all most of the time…<\/p>\n

Unless that is you’re talking about a Spaghetti Eis (no prizes for guessing why it’s called that!), then it’s a whole different story! \u00a0 Discovered by Grandad on his last visit, (and who I reckon quite fancied the look of it himself) a Spaghetti Eis is usually vanilla in flavour, having been pushed through a press to create the pasta shape.\u00a0 It’s not all ice-cream – the middle is usually whipped cream, and the sauce is homemade (in this instance) strawberry in lieu of tomato (obviously!).\u00a0 Finished off with a sprinkling of grated white chocolate for “parmesan”, and it’s apparently “the best” (but I\u00a0 have a suspicion that novelty factor has something to do with its desirability too).<\/p>\n

I am used to the incredulous stares as he’s presented with this concoction that’s more often than not the size of his head… But if he’s allowed to choose, and this is on the menu, it has the Five Year Old’s name written all over it.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 “He’s never going to eat all of that!?” say the looks as it’s placed directly in front of the expectant boy with eyes as big as saucers, and he immediately informs me that he “will share, but just not at the moment”…\u00a0\u00a0 I have been here before however, and I’m quite happy to just sit and bide my time…\u00a0\u00a0 There’s plenty to look at and think about in Sarcletti’s<\/a>* anyway – like imaginary future orders on my part, and what the ice-cream connoisseurs around me are having.\u00a0 This is in fact supposed to be one of the best Gelaterias in Munich, and with up to 60 authentic flavours available daily (plus lovely service),\u00a0 it’s not hard to understand why…<\/p>\n

And soon enough, having given this particular Spaghetti Eis a fair demolition attempt (it doesn’t usually take that long in the grand scheme of things) – the spoon is pushed across the table and into my hand with a “here you go Mummy, it’s a bit big… You can have some now”.\u00a0 And as the plate is pushed towards me, the mothers around me smile knowingly…<\/p>\n

Good things do indeed come to those that wait!…<\/p>\n
