By chance in France we got to stay here recently – quite possibly the nicest gite I think I have ever had the pleasure of staying in.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Our stay was short but sweet, but definitely had me hankering for much more in terms of view appreciation, stylish surroundings, and beautiful breakfasts served in a fantastic collaboration of antique crockery, and served by our genial hosts.<\/p>\n

And the peace, the sweet sweet peace.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 Yes, Bavaria is quieter than both London and Copenhagen, but we are in prime farming country here so you never know when a tractor will rumble away the quiet (usually before it rains I have noticed – like a kind of rural weather vane!), but this French idyll is one of those rare places where you can hear nothing but nothing at all (apart from the rare quack from the two resident ducks).\u00a0\u00a0 And at night, I think it should be law that if the weather permits, you absolutely must sit out and star-gaze.\u00a0 There is no such thing as light pollution in these parts.<\/p>\n

This last picture paints the memory that will stay with me from that briefest of brief stays… Being woken by a blade of golden light slicing the room in half, and the Small Girl hurrying out of her bed to throw the shutters open wide so that we could spy the sun rising, and watch as it spread its fingers through the mist, and out across the rolling French countryside.\u00a0 Magnifique…<\/p>\n
