A January sunrise (not this year. This is Bavaria. The view out of my Winchester bedroom window is a little more “urban” than that)…
Whilst I have been reading a lot of comments on how long January has seemed this year, I still can’t believe it’s almost over. When I was little January seemed so bleak and as far away from Christmas as you could possibly get, but now I really love this time of year and all the promise that it can bring.
As our building work starts shortly and we can’t do much travelling until that’s done and dusted (and I am expecting a LOT of dust!), I am looking forward to exploring a little more of what we have on our doorstep in the meantime. We have plenty of little trips here and there planned, including a good few theatre visits (helped along by a Christmas gift membership to our excellent local theatre from the in laws, and the added bonus that London isn’t all that far away)…
Having spent a good deal of time feeling slightly out of place recently, a real positive to being back in our “own country” is being able to watch something and enjoy it without having to do a terrible job of attempted translation and usually missing the point of it entirely in the meantime (I am speaking for myself here, everyone else managed just fine!). The first big show we have in our sights is Hamilton – the 13 year old’s Christmas present, but if anyone has any ideas for a show for an 11 year old boy (who can’t make his mind up as to what he would like to see) please send your suggestions this way. I am really determined that my offspring should experience as much of this kind of thing in their own language (and English culture in general) whilst we are here…
Speaking of culture, it’s that time again… My first hosting of CulturedKids in 2019… Favourites of the hosts last month were: Map & Family’s extensive London with Teens post, Mum’s Gone To’s The Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel, and Museum Mum’s Giverny – Monet’s Garden with Kids.
Thanks so much to everyone for joining in, we really hope that #CulturedKids continues to go from strength to strength this year, and we can already see that it is thanks to all of you!
