I haven’t been organised enough to join in with The Gallery so far in this blog, but having seen that this week’s topic is about one of my favourite things – I had to make an extra effort!
Light. It can make or break a picture in my opinion, whether artificial or natural. It can tell you so much about the photograph, even down to what time of day it was taken, or what time of year.
A friend of mine who is a real photographer (not just a pretend one like me), taught me not to be afraid of it, but to experiment with it. Take photographs in to the light for example to see the effect that it gives. Don’t give up if you don’t get a good picture, eventually you might end up with something you like…

Gorgeous images and very wise advice
Thank you Mrs Tee :)
W ⓞ W you really got those blue blues to pop out in the picture really great shots you clever lady
Thanks Helen :)
Oh, that second one is fabulous! I also love the orange sunlight through the trees in the third one. Great shots!
Thank you very much :)
I initially thought #2 was taken somewhere like the Planetarium section of a science museum – it’s very galaxy-esque (if that’s a word). Starved for Spring as I am right now, I’m going to have to say #3 is my favorite. I especially love that early morning sun shining through the leaves. If I’d tried to do that, I would have overexposed the whole thing, I’m sure! Loved them all!
Thanks MsCaroline! It’s very galaxy-esque when you are in there too! If you look closely, I am sat in the middle with my 4 year old – trying to take a picture and to stop him falling in the water! Glad you like the pics! Emma :) x
what wonderful photos, I can not that great at capturing good lighting in photos maybe one day i will get my hands on a btter camera and learn more about how to do it. Love your bluebells photo!
Thanks Sarah… My Camera isn’t top of the range (I would definitely break a really expensive one), but it does what I want it to do and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it! It’s a Canon G11, but I think the 13 is out this year :)
FAB photos, my dear! i’m glad that you took part this week :)
I recognised – kind of! – Kusama’s installation having recently watched a documentary (what an amazing woman!) and am now off to see how long it’s showing at the Tate for…
(i love the first photo too – the koru of the fern and the symbolism of new life…)
Thank you Sheonad! You MUST go…. please go and enjoy it for me too, I am sure you will love it. :) xx
Some lovely shots – I particularly like the simplicity of the first one.
Thanks Erica :)
I love all three but my favourite is the bluebells, I am hoping to find some this Spring :)
Thanks Mari! Say hello to them for me :)
That last photo is stunning and I love the art installation one. I thought it was a computer effect.
Thank you! Glad you like them! :)
Lovely pictures. Kusama has an exhibition at Tate Modern at the moment, I REALLY want to go.
Thank you! WOW, you absolutely must go! I command you! :)
Oh I want to go too now, looks awesome!
Try and go if you can! I would love to, but don’t think I will get to it before it finishes unfortunately :/
What is the second one? I love the vibrancy of the others as well. x
Thanks Emma ! It’s this amazing light installation by a Japanese artist…. Done with mirrors, water and a darkened room… the lights change colour while you are in there and it’s just really strangely moving! Emma :)
sounds brilliant. You get to see the BEST things x
Aw, thank you Emma :) xx
They are all good but that second one is something special.
Thank you. It’s probably one of my favourite pieces of art, and I love the title – Gleaming Lights of the Soul – it’s by Yayoi Kusama. Taken at Louisiana in Denmark last year… :)
