It can be fun gearing up to Christmas in a land that’s not your own, but I always always find it really hard being away from friends and family at this time of year – that part will never be easy (logistical reasons mean that we tend to alternate between here and home)…
I like to make sure we have all the necessary elements of a real English Christmas dinner however, wherever we may be (thank you very much Paxo for the boxes of stuffing that arrived this morning, that’s one English thing I now don’t have to worry about!), and that meant a trip to the Viktualienmarkt bright and early this morning to collect the turkey and seek out all the necessary accompaniments.
I wasn’t particularly excited about this little excursion, but I have to say that although the weather was unseasonably warm, the combination of the hustle and bustle of people stocking up for their big Christmas feasts (the first of which were held today in Germany), the brass-bands playing carols, and the noticeable seasonal happiness of everyone we met, gave me a much-needed dose of Christmas cheer…
Happy Christmas, Frohe Weihnachten, and see you all on the other side?!…

I totally know what you mean. I had a good old cry on Christmas Eve after I’d been on the phone to my family and I wasn’t looking forward to Christmas away from them at all, but Amy’s excitement made it a bit easier x
