In more ways than one…
My work is finished (i.e. my contract is complete, which actually I am quite sad about as it’s honestly been the most enjoyable stint of “real work” I think I have ever had), which of course means that school’s also out for us, as are the all important (parent-pleasing) reports.
And this in turn meant that (like last year) the moment school finished for the summer, we packed up the car and headed to Austria for a little break an hour and a half up the road from here in Natterersee (as is becoming very much a family tradition for us at this time of year it seems).
Like much of Europe, we are in the midst of a heatwave, so everything’s a little hot and unbearable at the moment, even high up in the Austrian mountains. Thankfully we kept our cool in the shade, and by frequent lake swimming sessions.
Days were spent relaxing, swimming, exploring Innsbruck (which looks much more fetching in the sun!) and ice-cream sampling; whilst evenings were spent sunset admiring, playing Bananagrams, counting hundreds of fireflies at night (not that obliging when it came to posing for photographs) and telling jokes with Grandparents (childhood summer memories aplenty), before they bade us a fond farewell and headed off down to Garda on yet another grandparent grand tour!
And also very much like last year, Natterersee was a pure delight. It’s not no.2 in the top 15 campsites in Austria for nothing you know. They are also branching out in terms of accommodation, so instead of the static mobile home option we usually go for, should we be here next year we might opt for one of the huge new African style Safari tents instead…
It was also nice to see the tiny frog guardians still in residence too! Until next time little green friends…

You can blame me for the heatwave. The last time we travelled to Austria in 2013 we had boiling temperatures (which came down as soon as we left). Same happened last week in Germany – 38 degrees until we went home! Mind you, it does make for fab photos, even when I’m behind the camera.
Enjoy your summer hols xxx

Beautiful shots as always. We’ll be staying in safari tents this weekend, on the Isle of Wight – we’ll have to compare notes when you stay in yours!

Oh, I am missing Germany already. In my head I thought, “oh, we should go there…”. Not anytime soon, unfortunately. What am I going to do in SA? I know you think it sounds good, but I’d gladly leave it to you.
