Slightly belated, but I do love a list ( from meal plans, to jobs I need to do in varying order of urgency, my house is covered in them!), and I have finally gotten around to committing this one to “virtual” paper thanks to being tagged in a “plans for 2019” post by the lovely Natalie over at Plutonium Sox…
So, in no particular order, my current life and travel plans for 2019 currently look a little like this…
To make our annual mountain pilgrimage, starting in February with a drive down through France, Holland and beyond down through Germany until we get to Garmisch, with time for a quick visit to our other “home” in between…
To attempt a little long haul travel now that the Toddler is a little more bearable on a plane/small spaces and can be “blackmailed” to keep still more easily. I would love to tell you a little more about these particular plans, but I can’t just yet… I also need to plan the rest of our Easter/Summer travel plans which are a little all over the place right now.
We are not just planning on foreign travel, we still need to introduce the kids to even more of their own country. We are slowly working our way through a very long list having seen plenty of Cambridgeshire (of course), Norfolk, Suffolk, The Peak District, and most recently the Lake District since we got back…
Continue with my Deutsch Sprechen – it would be such a shame to forget it all now, especially as it comes in so handy when I need to have a “private” conversation with my offspring from time to time. Speaking of them, they take their mock GCSE’s in German this Friday (the older two, not the toddler obviously!). I am probably more nervous than they are!
Finally rid our house of the various hues of blue so beloved by the previous owners. The big build starts on the 25 Feb for around 8 weeks or so when downstairs will be remodelled. We have had a little work done already this year, including a freshly restyled downstairs loo that is now sporting absolutely no blue at all (hoorah!),much more contemporary floor tiles, and rather beautiful (and completely impractical) mother of pearl mosaics around the sink.
As the 11 year old will have part of a chimney breast removed from his room, his redecoration will have to wait for a while, but the 13 year old has a newly decorated room (she actually does have a blue wall, I relented given this is the first bedroom she has ever been able to choose colours for, and it’s not a pale blue sickly shade anyway!), and the whole place feels more like ours every day! I still can’t decide what colour to repaint the blinking blue shed however. Answers on a postcard please…
I really want to learn a shed load (!) more about gardening this year now that I finally have my own. I cannot wait to grow our own veg, and flowers and not kill quite so many things… So far, I have garlic growing and some potato seed things doing something funny in the utility room. Watch this space.
To enjoy spending as much time with friends and family as possible, just in case we up sticks again – you never know.
This is also the year that I learn a lot more about SEO, and hope to do some social media management for other people eventually. This should all be helped along by my brand spanking new Digital Mums Course (that I started yesterday!)… I am also considering starting a “Week in Pictures” on a Sunday on the Blog instead of a Sunday Photo. As we are currently back in the UK, I find myself getting a little lazy when it comes to picture taking, and I want to kick start that again…
So there you have it, those are the plans for 2019 for now, and I have a stack of new lists to add to all of those others… I am tagging a few more people on the off chance that they would like to commit their 2019 plans to digital paper too…. No obligation obviously people: – Trish at Mums Gone To; Mari at Mari’s World and Linds at Eat Explore Etc.

great travel plans! oh , we’re redoing the bathroom too:) it was so difficult to choose to tiles, hope we made the right choice! well, we’ll see how it looks when it’s all done, but in the meantime we have to move out!
Emma says
We have to move out for a week, which I am not really looking forward to, but as it’s on a farm nearby the toddler will love it at least! :)

It certainly sounds like you have a well laid out plan this year. Safe travels to you and your family.

Thanks Crystal! :)

Thank you for tagging me up in this! I have to say, I rather love that shade of blue you’ve used. If it’s the only blue in the house, it’s definitely the right shade to have. I’m with you on the pale blues – I don’t like them, even in bathrooms.
Good luck with the garden growing too – I’m always amazed at anyone that can get food to emerge successfully out of the ground. It’s not a talent I possess! :D
2019 plans are difficult. I’ve found being back in full time work for a year, my inspiration and energy for forward planning and deciding on where to go is somewhat lacking. Limited perhaps by the fact I now need to book time off, when others aren’t, and spread days throughout the year. This Brexit mess isn’t helping matters, as I daren’t book anything abroad! (I’m also perpetually annoyed by the trains in the UK – we now need to drive everywhere, which makes things feel like a much bigger effort than I’d like.)
In terms of personal goals… After March I’m determined to find myself a different position at work (scary though that is!) and I’d love to find a way to make a decent loaf of bread on a weekly basis. Something that I can start one night after work and finish the day after. It doesn’t sound like a huge goal, but being able to craft a properly nice bit of bread would make me very happy indeed. :)

Thank you. My 13 year old will be pleased you like the only blue that’s allowed in the house. It’s quite a classy colour I will admit even though I had to feign enthusiasm when she first told me what colour she was having! :D I hear you on the travelling thing, maybe that’s why we are doing some longhaul this year and less Europe sadly. I need to put you in touch with my husband, the sourdough maker of the house, he loves baking and it makes him and us very happy! :D Hope 2019 is good to you and you find the right balance. x

I love that blue on your daughter’s wall. It’s a very sophisticated shade of midnight rather than just blue. I look forward to reading about all your travels and home renos in 2019.
Emma says
Thanks so much. It’s a blue I approve of, unlike the cold dingy shades the previous owners seemed to love! Would be boring if we were all the same I guess! :D xx
Elizabet says
What a busy, but contentedly so, year you have planned! To play devil’s advocate I really like that shade of blue wall – and your mother of pearl splashback is gorgeous!!
Emma says
Thank you Elizabeth, this is the one wall of blue that has been approved by me, and it’s a lot lovelier than I thought it might be! :D

Sounds like you will have a very busy 2019 with all those travelling plans. I’m like you and want to explore and get my little one more involved with places around the country so she can learn a bit more.
Emma says
So important isn’t it? Thanks Kirsty! :)

Loved reading through this. Best of luck with your home renovations, ours finished last year and I love the result! x

Thanks Alex, I am looking forward to seeing the end product, the mess and chaos will be worth it! :) x

Ooo, get you!! So many plans. It all sounds fantastic. But busy :) I need a reminder to pick up my camera more, too. I’ve stopped taking it out with me but I’d like to get back in to the habit again.
