On Saturday it felt like summer had arrived. At 30°C, it was almost too hot at times (sorry England, I know you have been suffering with your weather recently – no doubt you will send some of that rain our way soon enough!), so yesterday we set off to Schliersberg (a small mountain (compared to the Zugspitze) only an hour from Munich) where the weather would be cooler. It was a much cooler day in any event, and more than a little windy at the top (so windy The Seven Year old thought we might see the Wicked Witch of the West fly past. The Five Year old misheard this as Wicked Witch of the Wurst – more appropriate for Bavaria perhaps?), but this didn’t stop us from enjoying a few hours up here!
You can get a (beginners level) cable car to the top, or if you have the inclination you can walk up! And when you get to the top you can rest your legs at the hotel bier garten and reward yourself with a beer and a bite to eat, whilst admiring the beautiful views of the surrounding alpine countryside and lake below (too windy and cloudy for any pics unfortunately)…
It’s brilliant for children as it has a great play area, complete with trampolines, a huge ball pool, adventure playground and a (very cold looking) swimming pool if you’re brave enough!
And after all that, this is how you get back down again (you do have the option of getting the cable car down again in case you can’t do this by the way!)…
Not the longest of video clips (but it took about ten hours for me to work out how to get it on here anyway) but you might be pleased I didn’t use the other versions as there’s a lot more screaming and yelling going on in those!
And I believe that this is one of the tamer Summer Rodelbahn runs… I have been told that there are far more scary versions in the area. I am not sure I will be searching them out, we shall see!
Hello! I just would like to give a huge thumbs up for the great info you have here on this post. I will be coming back to your blog for more soon.
Looks amazing. I can’t believe the shoes either.
Thanks Erica…next time I will wear my converse promise! :)
Wow, that looks super fun!
It was very funny… I am not sure I would be brave enough to do the scarier ones though! :)
That is SO cool!! I am definitely going to Bavaria some day! But please, tell me….what is this thing called ‘summer’?? :-P
xx Jazzy
Thanks Jazzy! Let me know when you do! Emma :) xx PS. Don’t worry, I think some of your rain is heading our way for the weekend :D
this looks great!
very elegant shoes!
shuuuudddd – up about the weather!
Thank you! Completely impractical for a day on a Mountain! ;) Don’t worry the rain is heading our way!! :)
Oh how cool is that
Thanks K (: x
Wow! That looks amazing – what fun! You are very brave – sounded like you were having fun (there might have been a bit more shrieking if it had been me, I fear. I’m not good with speed.)
Thank you! It was suprisingly good fun. You don’t have to go all that fast if you don’t like speed. In fact it tells you not too in case of friction burns! :O
Wow that looks so cool..
It was very very funny… I am not ever going to let The Five Year old “drive” again though… talk about going to fast on the slow bits and too slow on the fast bits!! :)
What a fantastic idea! Can they put these on all mountains, d’you think?
Wouldn’t that be good? Seriously, you should see some of them though, they look absolutely petrifying!! :)
whoopeeee! that looks brilliant! we love flumes so the girls would no doubt love this……. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! and another cable car journey,em? you getting brave? x
I know… I have conquered my fear of cable cars I think, although this one is very very tame! :) Thank you Sheonad, hope all is good xx
Looks like great fun. I can’t believe you went in those shoes though.
Thank you! It was! And I know, don’t ask me why I wore those! My other half despairs! (:
