Yesterday was the last of a series of five Bank holidays that we get here in May… And trust me Reader, the weather has been quite typical of Bank holidays in general – i.e. truly appalling. With torrential rain, gales and fresh snow blanketing the mountains, you would be forgiven for thinking it was February at the moment rather than just about June… But grasping at straws in the hope that it would clear up, we went for a walk at one of our favourite places for some fresh air…
One of the good things about The Small People having experienced a couple of years of Danish Education (and as is the custom here to a certain extent), they think nothing of playing outside in all weathers, and so they at least never ever moan about spending time outside when it’s less than pleasant. Unlike their Mother. But I managed to muster up a lot more enthusiasm when it became obvious that the meadows were covered in a carpet of wild flowers in various colours, shapes and sizes… Suddenly the rain wasn’t a problem any more, the fact that I didn’t have my macro lens with me was…
Eager to find more strange and beautiful botanical specimens, we ventured onwards and upwards in the direction of the tiny chapel that perches on top of the hill, with swallows skimming the tops of our heads (in what I will now take as a sure sign that the weather is about to take a turn for the worse – if that’s at all possible). We took shelter in the woods for a short while before one of us fell in a puddle, and that made the decision to get back to the car an easy one…
The small person with a muddy derriere pointed out this bedraggled dandelion to me as we squelched our way back, and decided that he felt a little bit like that. I have to say that I did too, we were all thoroughly soaked – but it was worth it for the kaleidoscope… We will be back if the sun ever comes out…

These photos are just gorgeous. And yes, we have had enough rain to last us for quite a while! xx
I think we have had more than enough of our fair share! Thank you! :) x
Gosh what stunning pictures and even though I am sorry it rained for your FIVE! bank holidays, I am a little glad that it’s not just the UK that happens in :)
Thanks Nichola… Finally the rains have ended, and the floods can begin to go down!
Five bank holidays in May? Oh I wish, how lovely. If its any consolation its been totally chucking it down here too! But a little better these last few days. Lovely pictures.
Thank you…. Five bank holidays full of rain, and now flooding! :/ How typical!
That field is absolutely beautiful. Love the line of pink persicaria (at least that’s what it looks like).
Thank you! So pleased you know what they are too, had wondered! :)
Gorgeous shots as usual. Bedraggled like a dandelion clock…I like that :)
Thank you Sabrina! :)
What a lovely selection of wild flowers there. It’s great your children enjoy being outdoors so much. Hope the rain has stopped now! And yay to five bank holidays!!
Unfortunately the rain STILL hasn’t stopped, so yes I am pretty lucky they will play outside whatever the weather brings! Thank you! :)
Gorgeous photos as always, glad you’re doing the gardening linky too :)
Thanks very much Jean! I hope to join in a little more if it ever stops raining here!! :D
Lovely the vibrant colours, if you hadn’t said I wouldn’t have noticed it was raining in all that lovely colour. I think we have stolen all the sunshine this week. Hope to share a little! Thanks for linking up to Country Kids
Thanks Fiona! Yep, and it’s still raining!! Thank you (:
Beautiful photos Emma, love the raindrops on the dandelion leaf. Stunning!
I’m holding fast to my theory that we WILL have a summer this year!

On a different note, it’d be great to have you link up to Closer to Nature this week!: mumstheword.me/2013/05/30/closer-to-nature-4/
Thank you… Seriously, that’s what I felt like at the end! No problem…
Oh that looks so lush and green, there are some amazing flowers in the World but I don’t think a meadow of wild flowers can be beaten. Lovely, lovely photos m’dear.
thank you very much for joining in x
Thank you very much! :)
Why do they have 5 bank holidays in May? If it were in Feb/March I’d have guessed it was for skiing. If it were in July.August I’d say to make the most of the summer. But why May?
May day and a huge amount of religious holidays I think, although I am not 100% sure… I thoroughly approve though! :D
Lovely pics :) xx
Thank you! Not as good as they could have been! (:
