From the Top – Zugspitze
I am not sure I have ever seen the sky as deep a shade of blue as I have standing at the top of the Zugspitze (Germany’s tallest mountain), where the silence was only broken by the aeroplane you can just about see in the top right hand corner of this photograph, and possibly by the sound of my knees knocking together – having made the petrifying mistake of looking down…
But life is for living, and sometimes it’s good to do things that other people might consider completely mad. So, at the beginning of April, we will have a real family adventure at the top of this particular mountain, and (at the moment) I can’t wait! I won’t go into too much detail now, but will of course report back after the event. If we don’t get eaten by strange looking creatures such as this, that apparently (if the shop windows are to be believed) run wild in the area…
oh wow, that is beautiful! I’m quite curious as to what you have planned :-)
And I am quite worried/excited about what we have planned! Thanks Emma :) x
What an incredible view but I’m not surprised about the knee knocking it’s crazy high. Will there still be as much snow in April? I have a slight aversion to the white stuff so maybe not my type of adventure but will look forward to hearing yours. x
There should be at this height, but it will definitely be much greener lower down (hopefully!) :) Thank you! xx
Just stunning. The quality of the air is so different at the top of mountains I have been to as well. Did you find that? Enjoy your adventure. Popping over from Mummy’s Little Monkey’s ‘Blow Your Own Blog Horn’ linky x
Completely! Thank you… Will pop back! :)
Ooh a holiday planned! I’m hopeless this year – not sorted anything out at all. Mum’s gone to….????
Very unusually for terribly unorganised me, we have more than one planned. Although I might not call this particular upcoming adventure a holiday. I am just hoping it’s not going to be an ordeal!! :D
Hello! Wow, what a fantastic shot. Makes me shiver. The future adventure sounds interesting.
Hello you! Thank you, it is truly stunning up there! I hope it’s interesting in a good sense, and not the “I am not sure” sense! :D
Aw, c’mon – I’d want to meet that cute antlered guy! The first photograph is just breathtaking, Emma – I love how you’ve managed to capture the sweep and the speck of a plane, all at the same time. I just know how clean, clear that air will be. A little different from my big smoky city holiday :)
That was pure luck! Thanks so much Pia, and yes, the height might be petrifying, but the air is probably some of the cleanest you will ever breathe! :D Still jealous of your holiday though!
that really is such a breath taking photo, absolutely stunning xx
Thanks Wendy! :)
Well now I’m completely intrigued by that strange looking creature!
Me too! :D Thank you!
Gorgeous picture. There is something so ridiculously peaceful about snowy mountains!
Thank you, there is isn’t there? The silence is almost deafening at times! :)
What a stunning view! Hope you all have an amazing time.
Thank you! So do I… Time will tell! :D
That is probably the most incredible view I have ever seen! Exciting times ahead :-)
Thank you… It felt quite surreal at the top, I have never been to the very top of a mountain before! :)
Beautiful pic – good luck with those strange creatures!
Thank you! :D
Breathtaking! What a vision. Yes, life is for living – and those creatures look like they’ve done a bit of living! Can’t wait to read all about it x
Thank you! I actually had to remember to breathe up there at times, I am not that great with heights! :) x
“So at the beginning of April….” lets hope it is not the 1st of April!! xx
No, because on that day I will be on a plane! :D xx
Cable car right – not chair lift? I could do the cable car but a chair lift might be a bit frightening.
With this there are two options, huge cable car or funny train. For our adventure, I think we are getting the funny train, although the cable car was fine (felt much better as it had someone “driving” it!)… :D
Beautiful photo (I feel like I say that every time I comment, lol) I cant wait to hear all about your adventure! x
And me with your photographs! Thank you! :) x
Me thinks someone’s pulling your beaver!
Funny isn’t he? Imagine if someone actually bought it for you…! :D
That picture is fantastic, I imagine the real views and being there was spectacular!! x
Thanks Emma, twas indeed… Looking forward to going back up! :D x
What a shame to have come down
Actually, I was quite glad! :D Thanks Helen!
Gorgeous photo! Not sure about the creature though, like a cross between a beaver and a moose!
Thanks Laura! I have no idea what he is! :D
Looks like a friendly Narnian to me! Very intriguing…how exciting to be going on a high altitude family adventure – can’t wait to hear more x
It is so beautiful and untouched! Yes, it truly will be one of my more strange ideas!
Beautiful photo, but the mountains are not quite as high and breathtaking as in Switzerland!! ;)
PS: tried to subscribe again, but to no avail. Can you please just add my email address? Thanks!
I have seen the Swiss Mountains, and they are indeed truly magnificent! I would however, be slightly more worried about what we will be doing on an even higher Mountain than the Zugspitze! :D Thank you so much for trying, I am not sure what the problem is there. I will add your email address now.
Oh wow, those mountains are just beautiful! I always look forward to seeing your weekly entries. You know they’ll be good….I definitely wasn’t expecting the flying antelope headed beaver thingie! :)
Thank you! That’s a lovely comment! He’s quite odd isn’t he! :D
