I was up at 5.30 this morning. Not out of choice, but to pack the Small People and the husband off on a day long ski-trip organised by the school, hence the very early start!
The temptation to go back to bed once they had gone was great, but I resisted! We had a bit of snow last night, and I could see a pinky/orangey glow beginning to appear in one corner of the sky. So I got dressed, grabbed the camera, donned my wellies, and ventured out into the still slumbering wilderness…
There’s something so special about being out and about when the rest of the world still seems to be asleep! I did spot a couple of farmers, and a snow-plough man (who almost ran me over), but once he had kindly gritted the path for me and disappeared up the road I was on my own. It was literally silent, and very very beautiful…
I couldn’t do it every day, but I am so glad I didn’t go back to bed! Thank you Mother Nature for the most spectacular sun-rise, it put me in a good mood for the rest of the day!
PS. This post is especially for my Mother who told me off this morning for not posting enough!!
love the peace of early morning, unfortunately I love my bed as much, but when I do grab some early more time outside its so worth it. Fabulous photos. I hope your mother is happy.
It’s worth it on the very rare occasion isn’t it! Thank you :)
Just magical, looks like a beautiful spot and some magical weather. Skiing sounds fab too. Did it once near Munich, it was fab, once I had managed to stand up without help.
Thanks Penny… Were you at Garmisch? There is a very unfortunately named mountain there! Emma :)
what gorgeous photographs, emma! sometimes, there’s nothing like a walk by yourself. must remind myself to get up early enough to catch a winter sunrise before winter ends!
Thanks Pia… Looking at the UK weather forecast this morning, I think Winter is about to arrive for you! :)
Lovely landscapes Emma x
Thank you N… We will get up at 5.30 one morning when you are here if you like! Emma :) xxxx
What beautiful photos!! But the thing I liked best about this post was living vicariously through your solitary walk with your camera at sunrise. Thank you for sharing x
Thanks Kitty! Still miss my CPH walks! Emma :) xx
Oh wow! Kudos to you for staying awake and taking those cracking shots!
Thank you Mrs T. Do you know I felt wide awake at that time on Saturday (and Sunday when the alarm accidentally went off again), but this morning I feel exhausted… Typical! :)
We haven’t had any snow, but last week we have had some spectacular sunrises. Every morning I could see vivid reds and pinks in the sky. I relaly should have gone outside to photograph them, like you did! These photos are gorgeous.
Thanks Trish, seems this weird weather is good for something! Glad you like the pics! :)
Well done mother. With the as the result, it was a good nag.
Thank you! Anything for a quiet life! ;)
Good lord, 5.30 is very early! i am rarely out of bed before 7 but I agree that there is a special feel to the world when it feels like it’s your own. Just not special enough to drag me from my bed for…!
Thank you! I am not sure it will happen on a regular basis, but it made a nice change :)
Some fabulous pictures – very jealous of the snow. We’ve had no more than a few flakes that didn’t stick this year. Love some of those sky shots. It’s seems quite a flat landscape – hadn’t realised Bavaria was like that.
Thanks Erica… Only flat in that area really, surrounded by hills and Mountains just up the road! :) PS. Huge storm last night = no snow left this morning disappointingly!
Gorgeous! Thanks to your Mum from all of us!
Thank you! Don’t, you will make her worse!! :)
Gorgeous photos!
Thank you Em! Was admiring yours with Buster this morning on FB. What a fab name for a dog! :)
Stunning photos. It is wonderful to be up for the dawn isn’t it? And brings its own nice smugness too. ;)
Thank you Rachel! Yes, definitely, but then this morning the alarm clock went off again at 5.15 which removed any smugness left at all!!! :)
What a lovely surprise when I sneeked yet another look at your blog – hoping for some missives from Munich! Wish I was there to walk with you. Mx
You will get central Munich next week, will be there a lot I guess! Wish you were here too! Thanks Mum xxxxx
Pics well worth the early rise!
Thank you Helen :)
