There’s a little corner of my green and pleasant land that’s a completely different shade at the moment…
It’s easy to see this spectacle for yourself too – just find some woodland, follow the sweet and heady perfume (which is a good indicator that you have found the ancient native species by the way- the Spanish version has no smell!), and you will find British bluebell season well and truly in full bloom. This is definitely one of my favourite times of year at home – which is where we spent Easter if you think I have been a little quiet of late!…
These carpets of blue change colour by the minute – depending on the light and the time of day you visit them, but one thing doesn’t change (and probably hasn’t over centuries), the generations of families that turn out to pay homage to these beautiful flowers, ours included…
Ps. Some of you might recognise the first British Blues picture at the very top. I took it three years ago when we were visiting from Copenhagen, and it’s still my favourite of my bluebell picture collection!
Found this link and wondered if anyone has found bluebell/crocus or snowdrop fields in Bavaria? I need my spring flower fix!!
No bluebells in Bavaria sadly, they are very English, but there are stacks of crocuses at the Botanischer Gartens at the moment, they are beautiful! :)
I always look forward to bluebell season. It’s signifies for me the cusp of Summer, followed by Foxgloves they are my favourite woodland flower.Added this to the Brit Mums carnival.
Thank you Ali, and thanks for adding it to the Carnival! :) x
These are not the Brittish blues I had thought I was going to read about :) These are MUCH better! Thanks for coming back and linking up to #SundayTraveler again & CONGRATS on your BiB nomination I voted for you last night when I saw it.
Thanks so much SJ on both fronts! :) x
wow, your photos are stunning. They make me want to pack up now for my own walk through the bluebells!
Thank you Tamika! :)
Gorgeous photos! I love bluebells :) Thanks for linking up to the #SundayTraveler!
Thank you Ashley! :)
Oh how gorgeous! I wish I could be able to see them in person but allergies would have me running far far away.
I have really bad hay-fever, but surprisingly these didn’t affect me! :D Thank you! :)
These photos are just beautiful and really symbolize Spring. I love seeing all the flowers in bloom. That first photo is just gorgeous – postcard worthy. I almost wish we had bluebell fields to frolick in here in California.
Thanks so much Mary! :)
Love the photos! I can’t get enough of the bluebells this year – they are truly spectacular.
They really are aren’t they? Thank you Kate! :)
I remember bluebells from when I lived in the UK, such beautiful flowers. Thanks for sharing this!
Thank you Margherita! :)
Those flowers are so brilliantly blue and beautiful. I like the photos of the kids enjoying them. These remind me of the bluebonnets in Texas. It seems to be a spring tradition to photograph Texas kids sitting in a field of bluebonnets. (They have to watch out for rattlesnakes and fire ant mounds, though.)
Thank you Michelle… Luckily not many rattlesnakes or fire ants in the UK. Although we do have adders, but they are pretty shy and very rare! :D
Wow….those photos are stunning!! Looks like you all had a great time. #countrykids
Thank you, it was lovely! :) x
Yea…. it’s bluebells galore here in Kent. One of my favourite wildflowers and spectacles in Britain I think! I really need to find an afternoon with a couple of hours free and just go and sit for a few hours…
Yes, you must! Make the most of it whilst they are still out! :)
Gorgeous flowers! I don’t know if I’ve ever seen such a pretty field of bluebells. Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks Dave! :)
I could almost smell the bluebells just by looking into your photos. I love spring so much for this reason – the smells of the blooming flowers and trees. Lovely photos, Emma!
Thanks so much Frank! :)
I love bluebells! When I was growing up, we had a bluebell wood just down the road, and it was a kind of ritual to visit at this time of year (or maybe a little later) and see the bluebells – they were like a carpet. Your photos brought back some lovely memories – thanks!
Glad to bring back good memories Molly! Thank you! :)
They’re really beautiful and it’s so true about the generations of families coming to visit. You wonder how long they’ve been there and who wandered through these parts. Surreal but calming too. Lovely photos.
Thanks so much! :)
I absolutely adore bluebells, the woods are stunning at this time of year! I love the sunlight streaming through the branches here, but also the photo with the whitebell in amongst all the others, is fabulous!
Nipping over from Country Kids.
Thanks so much! :)
Beautiful carpets of bluebells – I can see why people flock to visit them and enjoy their display. Spring is such a wonderful season with so many amazing flowers to appreciate, thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.
Thank you Fiona! :) x
Some great pictures, and I will have to try and get out soon before the Bluebells finish! Amazing pictures, I love your last one, there looks like lots of concentration going on!
You must! They are just coming into their own! Thanks Tina! :)

:-)
Thanks so much Sian! :) We did thank you! :)
Oh that looks so pretty. I’ve only seen carpets of yellow so far this year.
Thanks so much Joy! We have fields of yellow at the moment too, the canola oil variety… Sneeze! :D
Stunning ! I love how in the top one they’ve changed colour as the sun shines on them. I ruddy love bluebells!
Thanks so much Annie! :) x
Just spectacular really.
Thank you Sabrina, very kind! :)
There really is something quite special about bluebells in England’s ancient woods. Beautiful shots. #hdygg
Thanks so much Kriss! :)
Stunning shots, how nice to be home surrounded by such magic x
Thanks Jane, it was a real treat! :) x
Emma what a beautiful post and such a simple pleasure to walk out and see the bluebells. Fabulous images as ever.
Thanks so much Sarah! :)
nothing more captivating than a carpet of bluebells, beautiful photos x
Thank you V x
That first shot is unbelievable. They all are. Wow. It was my first real experience of the bluebells this year, but I will be making more of an effort to bring the family to pay homage!
Thanks so much Katie! :)
I can TOTALLY see why you love that first photo. That would make a great print in a frame.
Thanks so much SJ! :)
I was so excited to find some bluebells growing in the garden, not enough to call a carpet but it’s a start. I love that top photo too, the sun shines a purple haze on them, quite magical.
HOpe you had a great time and have settled back ‘home’ now
Not sure I have settled, but it’s nice to be in some sort of routine again! :D Thanks Mari, have a wonderful time in Italy! :) xx
**ADORE*** bluebells!
Gorgeous aren’t they? Thanks Maggy! :)
I can see why that top photo is your favourite – just beautiful. Hope you’re getting over the other sort of blues and settling back to life in Munich.
Thank you Trish! :) x
Oh, so beautiful. I’ve several sprouting up over my garden, and they are lovely
Thanks so much! :)
That is just the most loveliest collection of pictures i love bluebells
Thanks Helen! :) x
Gorgeous gorgeous pictures!
It’s absolutely my favourite time of the year in the forest.
Thank you Liz! :)
Beautiful photographs and I hope you had a wonderful Easter. We have made our annual pilgrimage to the bluebells and I absolutely love it. I also love forest filled with wild garlic but haven’t found any near us yet.
The garlic is really prolific here, much more so than I have seen at home, but that will no doubt change with time. Thank you Kirsty! :) x
Sea of blue flowers are so amazing. Especially while the sun is beaming on them. Thanks for sharing such amazing photos #HDYGG
Thank you Merlinda! :)
the bluebells look really pretty indeed!
Thanks Otilia! :)
Bluebells are about the only pretty thing in our garden right now, they make up for a multitude of garden sins/neglect. Stunning pics :)
Thanks so much Penny! :) x
GORGEOUS post! My parents fell in love in a bluebell wood so they’ve always had a special place in my heart! x
Thanks Katy! If you would like a copy of the top pic for them (without the watermark!) let me know! :)
beautiful photos – gave me a pang for the bluebell woods near our old house – haven’t discovered a replacement for woodland wanderings yet.
Thanks so much Sally! I hope you find one soon! :) x
Lovely to pop back every so often, isn’t it? Spring woodland walks are always lovely in the UK. We do those well, don’t we. Will you be at BritMumsLive this year? Elinor x
It is and it isn’t… I love being back, but each time I find it harder to leave! :D Thanks Elinor, and yes I will. Hope to see you there! :) x
The light in the first photo is amazing. Was it taken early morning or evening? Glad you managed to be ‘home’ for Easter xx
I took that in the evening… The rest were taken in the afternoon! Thanks Martin! :) xx
There is something in a bluebell wood that transports me back to my own childhood, that sense of magic that makes you keep your eyes peeled for fairies!
There’s so much about fairies and bluebells in our folklore… Never enter a field full of bluebells, that really is fairy territory apparently! :D x
Magical!
We have two bluebells growing at the end of our drive right beside a drain! I have no idea how they got there or how they are surviving but it makes me smile to see them. And swerve!
Bluebells are just so gorgeous, arent they?
Thanks so much T! They are indeed! :) x
Beauuutiful photos. Gave me a little pang of England-sickness – for the first time in four years!! Welcome home :)
Thank you, glad you like them! Sorry for the England-sickness pang! :) x
Quite alright – had a quick think about David Cameron and it disappeared ;)
Hahaha… I like your way of thinking! :)
Beautiful! Now I’m homesick x
Thanks Em. Sorry about that! xx
How beautiful! That first one is a stunner. There’s something marvellously magical about walking through a bluebell wood, especially in the sunshine! x
Thank you… I was there at the exact right time that year, just wish I had taken it on a decent camera! :) xx
A magical time and because Easter was late this year the bluebells were at their best for you. I love the 5th picture. x
Thanks Mum xxx
Magnificent….the smell must be incredible.!!!
It was amazing Leslie, thank you! :) x
Lovely post and so beautiful photos.
A woodland excursion is now on my top priorities this spring :)
Thank you! Hope you get to see them! :)
sometimes when wandering amongst the flowers it’s easy to forget that the woods are ancient and then sometimes I stop and think about the feet that have walked the same paths, the different clothes, the different worries, the 100s and 100s of years between us and yet we stop and stand and look at the same earth and feel the same sense of oneness with nature. It’s quite an amazing sense of history and love for nature that overwhelms me. Thank you for putting it into pictures.
And thank you for the lovely comment! :) xx
I’ve written a post on this very thing – it is something I also love. If I hadn’t locked myself out of my blog – I would have published!!! Your photos are wonderful. Bluebells are my favourite flower.
Oh no… I hope you get back in soon! Thanks Gemma. Probably my fave too! :) x
My school had fields full of them and it takes me back. Thanks for posting and thanks for the lovely reminder. Oh how I miss it too xx
Thank you… xx
You just can’t beat bluebell season. It really is rather magical. As are your photos. Hope you had a lovely Easter x
It was so lovely to be home… Thanks Mary, hope you did too! :) xx
