Rather shockingly (considering the amount of photographs I take), I have fewer pictures than expected of my Small People together in a photograph – on their own. This could be because the photographs I do have are quite often back views of them as disappear into the distance – like this for example, taken in my favourite country…
Or this taken in France last year…
Or it could be because if they have been asked to stand too close to one another, quite often attempted strangulation occurs… Or, if we are lucky, one might squeeze the other’s hand a little too tightly if they have been instructed to stand nicely and hold hands for a photograph – because it looks cute, and come on – how much longer can I get away with it?!…
Therefore, I plan on taking more photographs of the two of them (don’t worry I won’t publish them all!), as there aren’t actually many pictures to illustrate that they really do (despite the odd bashing about) have the most incredible bond… I have wondered if it’s a Third Culture Child thing, given the myriad of changes they have come to expect (and have had to contend with) so far in their short lives. If this is the case, I think it’s great that they know that despite everything else being new or “foreign”, they can seek the other out, and depend on them for support in unfamiliar territory if we are not around – regardless of how much they claim to hate each other at times!
Everyone getting drenched in Lake Como last year
Or perhaps it’s just a normal clan thing? I have my fingers crossed this is the case… And I have them really really crossed that this sibling bond runs deep and strong throughout their lives, as I suspect it just might.
This last one taken in Venice last year is all the proof I need (despite the fact it’s not the best quality photograph)! See? They do love each other really!
Lovely photos, especially the bottom one x
Thanks very much Gina! :)
How funny, I wrote a very similar piece about my daughters this week – how they love to hate each other! I do think that the bond goes deeper than we think though and as you say, yours have a real reason to stick close to one another. Thanks for linking this up to #oldiesbutgoodies this week. The first two pictures are simply gorgoues – holding hands is really cute :)
Thanks Suzanne! What a great idea for a linky! :)
What beautiful photos! I am the complete opposite of you – my photos are all child/ children and no background. We come home from holiday and I realise I have no photos of where we’ve actually been because I zoom in and focus on the kids all the time!
Thanks very much Sarah! I take far too many photos, I just have to plough through quite a few where they are together! :D
that’s so sweet. i’m from a rather large family and is amazing the bond I have with some of my siblings. Even though I’m decided not to have a second baby seeing siblings love like that makes me wonder if Harry will be happy enough as an only child.
Thanks so much Aida! In my experience, single children often have that same exact bond with other family members or close friends instead! :)
Particularly love the shots of them walking through the fields together.
Thanks Erica! They look so tiny! :)
This is your blog in a nutshell: beautiful photos, a love for your children and featuring some fabulous locations.
What a lovely comment Trish… Thank you so very much! :) xx
You know how to make Grannie shed a tear! xx
Sorry about that Grannie… Can’t wait to see you next weekend!! xxxx
so wonderful to see siblings getting on. Mine are definitely either the best of buddies or not. Your pictures wow me yet again. x
They sound like mine, it’s very much a Marmite relationship – love or hate! :) Thank you xx
That last photo is definitely one to cherish and I love the ones of them hand in hand walking away from the camera. After CK, I considered after having just one child but then I though ‘how lonely’, it’s so nice to have a companion even if there are arguments along the way now and again.
Thank you! And you are so right, it’s worth all the arguments! Hope all is good xx
Beautiful pictures. The first one is absolutely stunning!
Why thank you. It is much appreciated! :)
Such a gorgeous post. I also have loads of photos of the back of my family. They are at the age where they hide every time I point my camera at them. Its so frustrating. Beautiful photos, love the one of them splashing in the lake x
Best off capturing them unawares now then Mama S? Thank you, glad you liked the post and the pics! :) xx
I LOVE that top photo!!!! I just want to jump into it and run around like a kid in that scene. x
It was taken in such a stunning part of the world… There are lots of places around there that make you feel like doing that! Thanks so much Michelle! :) x
Awwwwww – the first two especially are stunning and love the one of them playing in the water too xx
Thanks Kara! :)
I love photos taken from behind! I think it just captures something really special – plus you don’t have to worry about the fact that x is pulling a horrid face, or y is picking her nose…
Thanks so much Harriet. How right you are about the face pulling! :D
Wow, those first two photos are absolutely gorgeous!! I hope to someday take similar photos of my child(ren). x
Thanks so much Cheryl! :) x
I love photos of them walking away from the camera, so natural. I have a cracking one of Amy and my niece, holding hands as they walk away from me and the natural element just makes it all the more special to me.
CJ x
Un-posed photographs are the best aren’t they? Thank you CJ xx
The bond between brother and sister is so strong, as we can see in the lovely pics. I think it will last throughout their lives :) x
That’s a lovely comment, thank you Emma :) x
i adore the top one that is so beautiful it looks like it should be in a magazine.
Thanks Helen, so glad you like it! :)
Gorgeous photos as always! I love seeing my children play together and I really hope they stay close as they grow up.
Thanks Laura, fingers crossed for you! :)
Gorgeous pictures, the top two look like something you could use for the cover of a children’s novel.
Aw thank you! It could be about two naughty little children! :D x
I think you’re right about TCKs having a special bond – I certainly do with my sister, despite the differences in our ages. She is one of the few people in the world who almost always knows exactly what I am thinking. I think all the photos are beautiful, but I really do love that last one best!
Thank you Caroline…. I only heard about the whole TCK thing recently, it just makes so much sense! Glad you like the last one. She is only half throttling him in jest! :D
Lovely, and how lucky to have seen such amazing places at such young ages!
Thank you… They don’t think so all the time! :D
Gorgeous collection of photos! I’m sure all the moves and changes have strengthened the bond, as they share adventures and the unknown together. Working as a team. Certainly feel that with mine, and our moves have only been within the UK. Also think the fact their dad’s away a lot has made them closer.
Thank you! Funny isn’t it how these bonds grow out of something that can sometimes be seen in a slightly negative light! :)
Really stunning photos and you can see the bond between them
Thisdayilove
Thanks very much Leyla! :)
Gosh I love that first photo. I remember it from the original post. It is just the best. Of course they love each other, they just have to stop bickering for long enough to notice!
Thank you! I know they do, it’s just that sometimes they need reminding! :D
These pics remind me of me and my brother – he’s a year and half younger than me and we were like partners in crime (although he was the hard one and I was the softie)…I love the last pic with genuine hugs and smiles, really lovely.
Thank you! Partners in crime is SUCH a good way to describe them! :D
Wow – some really stunning photos but that last one is unbeatable for the ‘Aw’ factor. Lovely words too. You and they are very lucky that they are so close. Long may it continue! (P.s. I have been offline for a while and have some catching up to do on both reading and blogging over the next few days!)
Thank you so much Mary, yes so do I! I am glad you are back online, I had wondered if you were OK :D!
Of course they do! :) My favourite pic is the first one, love the movement in it and the fabulous colours.
I know my two daughters have a strong bond too despite living in different countries now.
Thank you, tis one of my favourite pictures. So nice to hear your daughters still have a strong bond. I do with my sisters too despite living in different countries! :D
