Not much phases the Nine Year Old it seems – including altercations with mythical creatures.
To be fair to the “tooth fairy” – the baby tooth in question had actually been left under a pillow – as has been the norm for the past few years (despite my suggestion that the “tooth fairy” might appreciate it if they were left somewhere slightly easier!), so really the poor thing was just doing her job (!!).
Over breakfast the next day, a glowering Nine Year Old face gave away the fact that she was massively displeased about something, and a short while later I found the above note…
The “tooth fairy” in this house is slightly absent minded however, and it took her several days to find exactly where she had put the blinking tooth in question. But in the meantime (whilst she searched for it) she left a reply and took the money back as requested (for the Nine Year Old was completely adamant about that!).
When I had finally stopped laughing at this battle between feisty child and imagined mythical creature, a little part of me felt a bit sad about the fact that this part of her childhood is inevitably coming to an end. I am sure it won’t be long before poor old Father Christmas gets the chop too, but I reckon Krampus will be around for a while longer yet – she will pretend to believe in him to torment her brother if nothing else!
Given that they have friends from all over the globe – each with varying traditions when it comes to the disposing of baby teeth (from mice that collect them in the dead of night, to chucking them up onto roof tops) I am surprised she has believed in a “fairy” for this long to be honest. But having said that, childhood does seem to last that little while longer here, which is no bad thing…
For the time being however, if she happens to stick another baby tooth under her pillow (and she still has a few more to go!) – this “tooth fairy” will carry on taking them and leaving coins in their absence. If for no other reason than to see what letter might be left next time around…
Please forgive my quietness over the next few days… I am off to foreign parts, and ever hopeful of having a few true days of doing absolutely zilch. Will be back before you know it! x

It doesn’t seem 5 minutes ago that I was writing ‘wobbly’ letters from the tooth fairy to you! Oh how funny, I did have to laugh at this one though. Have an amazing holiday, and come back with lots of fantastic pictures taken with your new camera for future blogs. x

Children are so funny. It’s lovely that these beliefs and traditions last longer for children in other countries.

Thanks Louisa… Being an Expat does has its upsides sometimes! :D

This is so gorgeous. I got myself in a right fix by responding to notes (actually, long questioning essays) my daughter wrote to ‘her’ tooth fairy (there are more than one, didn’t you know, my daughter’s is called Rachel…) . Anyway, Father Christmas and the Easter Bunny have both been revealed as the fakes that they are (the kids asked) and the boy knows about the tooth fairy too, but strangely, my daughter hasn’t questioned the existence of ‘Rachel’. Waiting to see what happens the next time a tooth comes out… She’s never asked for a tooth back, though!
Hope you have a lovely break. x
