Our home for the bank holiday last weekend – a guest house on a working dairy farm not far over the border into Austria – a working dairy farm complete with acres of free range fun for the Small People (plus our lovely super-fit hiking friends – more on them later!).
As you might expect for such an environment there were masses of animals for the Small Boy to communicate with, including beautiful bovines – girls who were up with the larks each morning for milking.
Add to that an army of cats in all shapes and sizes, who mostly kept themselves to themselves. One exception to this was Brutus (christened by Small Girl), the hugest Ginger Tom mix, who seemed to enjoy our company – as long as it was very much on his terms.
And last but not least, and definitely the favourite with everyone – the biggest puppy I think I have ever seen – a very beautiful nine month old Saint Bernard…
It wouldn’t be an alpine farm without one of those surely?
And whilst all humans under the age of ten enjoyed their enhanced free-range status, the adults excelled in relaxing and enjoying the autumn sunshine. Garnering energy for our adventure the next day…

Beautiful pictures! Time in the Alps just absolutely reveals why it made so much sense for all those old health centres and spas and things to be based there. All that air and sky and trees and nature, just makes you feel like a million buck, eh?
Emma says
There are plenty of those about, and yes it really does! Thanks L! (:
