[…] The walk through the Klamm takes around forty minutes – possibly longer in frozen conditions – that’s if you are not stopping behind people taking pictures every few seconds. I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to the patient people stuck behind me (thankfully most of them were actually my family – not usually patient, but awestruck on this occasion I reckon!). You can of course carry on and walk for miles on the other side, as once through the gorge, various serious-hiking options await. We turned back on this occasion as we had two small people with us who were periodically declaring that they were hungry, and with no guarantee of the closest food option on the hiking route being open, we thought it the safest option. And I am glad we did, or we wouldn’t have spotted this! […]
i really love this shot. i saw the rock up above and couldn’t work out if it was large and high up or just really small. fantastic phot0.
Thanks so much Sherry! :)
Cool photo. I guess you weren’t nervous it would drop on you. For some reason, I’m imagining the Roadrunner and Wylie Coyote.
That did actually cross my mind too! :D
Stunning! Hope you’ve had a fab summer! X
Thank you lovely. Escape wise, it’s been perfect. Sun wise not so! :D Hope you did too xx
Amazing photo Emma.I look forward to hearing more about the boulder.
Thank you Aly xx
Looks beautiful. It’s so close to where we were in Mittenwald! Next time! Bron x
Such a gorgeous place! Thanks Bron! :)
Marvelous shot!
Thanks so much! :)
What a wonderful place to explore!
Thanks Fiona. Looks fantastic doesn’t it? :)
Do you sort of hope the boulder stays stuck for a few more minutes as you walk underneath?! I always do.
Great colours and light.
Totally! Nobody had noticed it though, it was only because I was taking so many pictures!! :D Thank you x
Wow, what a vista. That hanging rock looks amazing. x
Thanks Mum. You would have found it a little hair-raising here I think… :D xx
When I first looked at this I thought there was a waterfall, but then saw that it was rocks and the play of the sunlight. Nice photo. #SundayTraveler
Thanks so much Jessica! :)
Wow….that’s such a good capture it looks like a painting! xx
Thank you J! :) xx
My eye was first drawn to the rock precariously wedged in the gorge and then I saw the cross bottom left and wondered what on earth it was doing there? Fascinating photo.
Thanks Phoebe! This was taken in the Partnach Gorge in Garmisch, a canyon carved through the middle of the rocks by roaring water. I think the cross was put there in honour of all the men that died when it was famous for logging generations ago.
That boulder looks very nicely wedged there (thankfully). Impressive cave!
Doesn’t it just? Thanks Tas! :)
Fab shot, probably a good thing that boulder got stuck there on its way down? xx
Thank you FW. Yes, I think so too! :) xx
Oh wow! That is such an interesting photo!
I wouldn’t fancy walking under that boulder though…
It was off to one side if you see what I mean, so even if it did somehow manage to dislodge itself, it SHOULD just fall straight into the water! :D Thanks Kim! :)
Wow! What can I say other than beautiful and mesmerising!
Thank you Carla! :)
such an interesting shot, I’ve been to Garmisch with my family (who live nearby).
What lucky things to live so close to the mountains! You must say hi next time! :)
What a stunning shot, love that ‘little’ boulder crammed there at the top #SilentSunday
Thanks Mary! :)
This is very cool – kind of reminds me of Superman’s home! We’re going skiing to Garmisch this season – any tips?
Thanks Laura… Yes, definitely! If you don’t mind the cold, then you absolutely have to try this: http://www.thesojournseries.com/bavaria/eskimo-dreaming/
That looks amazing!!! Unfortunately, we’ll be with a three-month old baby and its grandparents when we go at the end of the year, so will just stick to some skiing this time, but have bookmarked it. Views look amazing! Can’t wait!
One day then Laura, definitely! :) Thank you!
Wow great shot just as long as it doesn’t fall lol. Have a great Sunday
Thanks Jilly! :) You too! :)
I love this! What a fantastic place. Quite a coincidence but my entry this week has a similar feel.
Thanks Sophie! Looking forward to visiting again when it’s all frozen in the winter, should be stunning! :)
Is that inside a cave? There’s a lot to take in here – with the funny rock stuck halfway down, the beautiful light and the little gate at the bottom of the photo. Intriguing!
It’s like an open air cave I guess, carved through the rock by a roaring river. Thank you! :)
Great photo as always, took me a minute to figure it out. Love the boulder stuck like that, looks precarious but probably been there for ages.
Thanks Jean. It took me a moment to figure it out too, this was behind us and I turned back and noticed it. It probably has been there for years like you said! :)
STUNNING!! Wow! Where have you been?
Wish I was there :-)

Thanks Steph! Took this at the Partnach Gorge in Garmisch a few days ago. Truly impressive place, just don’t forget your raincoat! :D
Wow! Is this a doorway to a church? I spy a cross? It looks fantastic. Where is it?
Thanks Sarah, it’s actually a gorge near the mountains in Garmisch (post coming up soon!), there’s a little religious plaque on the wall here, but I liked the boulder stuck between the two rocks! :)
