There’s a little corner of my green and pleasant land that’s a completely different shade at the moment…
It’s easy to see this spectacle for yourself too – just find some woodland, follow the sweet and heady perfume (which is a good indicator that you have found the ancient native species by the way- the Spanish version has no smell!), and you will find British bluebell season well and truly in full bloom. This is definitely one of my favourite times of year at home – which is where we spent Easter if you think I have been a little quiet of late!…
These carpets of blue change colour by the minute – depending on the light and the time of day you visit them, but one thing doesn’t change (and probably hasn’t over centuries), the generations of families that turn out to pay homage to these beautiful flowers, ours included…
Ps. Some of you might recognise the first British Blues picture at the very top. I took it three years ago when we were visiting from Copenhagen, and it’s still my favourite of my bluebell picture collection!
Shazzie says
Found this link and wondered if anyone has found bluebell/crocus or snowdrop fields in Bavaria? I need my spring flower fix!!
Emma says
No bluebells in Bavaria sadly, they are very English, but there are stacks of crocuses at the Botanischer Gartens at the moment, they are beautiful! :)
Aly says
I always look forward to bluebell season. It’s signifies for me the cusp of Summer, followed by Foxgloves they are my favourite woodland flower.Added this to the Brit Mums carnival.
Emma says
Thank you Ali, and thanks for adding it to the Carnival! :) x

I have really bad hay-fever, but surprisingly these didn’t affect me! :D Thank you! :)
Mary {The World Is A Book} says
These photos are just beautiful and really symbolize Spring. I love seeing all the flowers in bloom. That first photo is just gorgeous – postcard worthy. I almost wish we had bluebell fields to frolick in here in California.
bavaria says
Thanks so much Mary! :)
Kate says

I remember bluebells from when I lived in the UK, such beautiful flowers. Thanks for sharing this!
bavaria says
Thank you Margherita! :)
Michele {Malaysian Meanders} says
Those flowers are so brilliantly blue and beautiful. I like the photos of the kids enjoying them. These remind me of the bluebonnets in Texas. It seems to be a spring tradition to photograph Texas kids sitting in a field of bluebonnets. (They have to watch out for rattlesnakes and fire ant mounds, though.)
bavaria says
Thank you Michelle… Luckily not many rattlesnakes or fire ants in the UK. Although we do have adders, but they are pretty shy and very rare! :D
Super Busy Mum {Debs} says
Wow….those photos are stunning!! Looks like you all had a great time. #countrykids
bavaria says
Thank you, it was lovely! :) x
Rachel says
Yea…. it’s bluebells galore here in Kent. One of my favourite wildflowers and spectacles in Britain I think! I really need to find an afternoon with a couple of hours free and just go and sit for a few hours…

Molly S says
I love bluebells! When I was growing up, we had a bluebell wood just down the road, and it was a kind of ritual to visit at this time of year (or maybe a little later) and see the bluebells – they were like a carpet. Your photos brought back some lovely memories – thanks!
bavaria says
Glad to bring back good memories Molly! Thank you! :)
Notmyyearoff says
They’re really beautiful and it’s so true about the generations of families coming to visit. You wonder how long they’ve been there and who wandered through these parts. Surreal but calming too. Lovely photos.

There is something in a bluebell wood that transports me back to my own childhood, that sense of magic that makes you keep your eyes peeled for fairies!

There’s so much about fairies and bluebells in our folklore… Never enter a field full of bluebells, that really is fairy territory apparently! :D x
Mummy Barrow says
Magical!
We have two bluebells growing at the end of our drive right beside a drain! I have no idea how they got there or how they are surviving but it makes me smile to see them. And swerve!

Thanks so much T! They are indeed! :) x

kelloggsville says
sometimes when wandering amongst the flowers it’s easy to forget that the woods are ancient and then sometimes I stop and think about the feet that have walked the same paths, the different clothes, the different worries, the 100s and 100s of years between us and yet we stop and stand and look at the same earth and feel the same sense of oneness with nature. It’s quite an amazing sense of history and love for nature that overwhelms me. Thank you for putting it into pictures.
bavaria says
And thank you for the lovely comment! :) xx
