A few pictures from a weekend visit to Schwabhausen’s fabulous Kurbis Fest.
We didn’t go last year, as I know for a fact we were recovering from a certain well known bier festival taking place at the same time – but we went a couple of years ago, and it was so beautiful we thought we would go for another gander…
Let me warn you now that if you are of a sensitive disposition in terms of exactly how large your pregnant belly is (makes mental note to keep mouth shut on the size of pregnant women in the future, people really do say some odd things – plus even more annoyingly it seems they can’t make their minds up – I am either too big, or too small!!) visiting a Pumpkin festival might not be such a good idea (there will be lots of jokes about pumpkin smuggling, and entering you for the biggest pumpkin award, I can tell you that now!)…
Keeping a zen like cool on size of pregnant belly comments perhaps??
I did have to laugh as I was greeted with this almost soon as we arrived, and being the current size that I am, we compared bellies (I think he’s expecting twins or even triplets however!)…

As I have said before, this kind of thing is something the Bavarian’s do extremely well, so it’s well worth the slight trek out of town should you happen to be here for the other kind of festival that they also do very well… Incidentally should you be looking for the most gorgeous venue for a Bavarian Wedding or other sort of celebration, I think this place might just be ideal!
And this year we made sure we went home with another Spaghetti squash! But unlike last time we knew what to do with it (roast it and mash it with plenty of butter, black pepper and Parmesan!)…
That looks like such a cool festival! I used to go to a pumpkin festival in New Hampshire every fall!
Thank you Liz! (:
Emma, would be lovely to have the photo of the lady with the green hair (holding onto her belly!) for the BritMums photo round-up if you’re able to send me a high res version? And you’re not having a baby obvs! My email is charlydove@gmail.com x
No problem Charly x
Oh wow this sounds amazing Emma and I love all the photos! It’s definitely our kind of place and it’s lovely to see all the orange! You can’t have long to go now!
Thanks Charly! No, was due yesterday! :D
Love the pumpkin tractor! Wonder if I can persuade my OH to make me one ;)
Set him the challenge! :D Thanks Joanne!
Wow so many pumpkins some so different. You did make me laugh about the pumpkin smuggling!!!
Thanks Gemma :D
I definitely prefer carving a pumpkin to eating it, there is also something about the smell that I am not too keen on!
I hate the smell of the carved pumpkin! :D Thanks Stephen…
I love carving pumpkins but don’t like eating them x
Whilst I hate carving them, but love eating them! :D Thanks Rachel!
Autumn is my favourite season so loving all these pics! such wonderful colours x
Thanks Fritha! (:
I love to see the pumpkins and squashes displayed at this time of year. I need to find out if there are any pumpkin festivals on near us soon.
Thanks Ness, I love Autumn, such a gorgeous time of year! :)
In my little part of Lincolnshire we grow most of the pumpkins for the UK but this has only really taken off over the last few years. We now have a pumpkin parade in town with a pumpkin-shaped carriage etc. I think I need to show these photos to the local council to give them some ideas of how we could develop the idea further!
Definitely! It could be huge. You could be the Pumpkin Queen Trish if you inspire them! :) xx
Smashing squashes! :) Though endless pumpkin jokes probably not so smashing! Can’t be long now? Thinking of you x
Thank you T! Three or four days! :) xx
What a feast for the eyes. All that lovely Autumnal colour oozing out of everything. A photographers heaven!
Thanks so much! (:

Oh that looks like a great place to visit. I love it when we celebrate the seasons and all those pumpkins look amazing and certainly give the Autumnal feeling
Celebrating the seasons is something Bavarians do really really well! Thanks Jen (:
Haha, this looks like so much fun, and I love the pumpkin covered tractor.
And I’ve had all sorts of comments on how big my belly is, from “woah, you’re eating well aren’t you” to “What? Eight months? Are you feeding him enough” – which is bloody rude!
Thanks Rachel. Today to make up for all those annoying comments, I had a really lovely comment and that made up for them all! (: Hope all is well with you – not long now!! :)
Fantastic pictures! It sounds like a very German event. I like the sound of it though – I’m a bit of a pumpkin fan.
Thanks Erica (:
Oooh I think I’d have been snapping photos all day long if I was here – it looks amazing!
Oh, and I LOVE the cabinet in that first photo x
Great isn’t it? Thanks Cass! (: x
