Consider this next post a public service announcement of the very best kind – ice cream!…
Amongst many unexpected things, my expat life has definitely honed my ice-cream appreciating skills. It might be the relatively close proximity to Italy, but Munich definitely has its fair share of great ice cream parlours – but I think perhaps I might have found the most dedicated people to their craft yet.
True & 12 opened last Thursday just opposite the Gasteig. Nestled in between a great looking Pizza restaurant and a Brazilian bar, the combination of all three places would make for a very good night out don’t you think?
So why the name? “True” stands for transparency – here they believe in the best organic and regional ingredients and original flavour combinations to create exquisite artisinal icecream. And the 12? Well I always think you can’t possibly guarantee the quality of a place with too much stuff on its menu, and it turns out that True & 12 agree – here the 12 stands for a promise of twelve handmade flavours that change daily…
We popped down on opening day for a spot of taste testing – it was also the hottest day of the year so far at 31 degrees, so this was the place to be for obvious reasons! Between us we struggled to pick out of such tempting flavours such as lavender, rum & raisin, bourbon vanilla and chai (they also offer lactose free options too such as goats cheese and honey, and beautiful fruit sorbets), but we settled for the amazing Karamel Pecan (the caramel of which takes 5 hours to make by the way) the lemon and mint (which Mr R likened to a mojito in a cone – just without the rum), the mango and ginger (also delicious) and a traditional Fiori di Latte which the Small Boy said was not only was it the best ice cream he had ever had, but the cone was the best too! High praise indeed from a seven year old!
One of the most refreshing things about the place (apart from the cold stuff!) is that Davina and Rony really value their customer’s opinions and positively encourage you to share new ideas and flavours with them, either in the shop itself or by social media – find them on twitter@Trueand12 – and on facebook and instagram too!
So if you are in the neighbourhood and haven’t yet tried it, might I suggest you pop round? Or if you are visiting Munich over the next few months – make sure you bookmark that map of Rosenheimer Platz won’t you? You will thank me, I am sure of it.
Disclaimer – we were weren’t paid to mention True & 12, I just believe in helping to promote new businesses that are definitely worth a visit/mention. All pictures property of True & 12…

Good ice-cream is worth it’s weight in milky gold in my books. Karamel Pecan would be my first order!

Did I mention the cones are handmade too, lightly cinnamon-ed, they go perfectly with the ice cream you mention above! :)

Oh my goodness. Those flavours sound divine, their ethos perfect and they passed the most harshest critic of all! I tend to avoid ice cream because of the milk / lactose so am also glad to see they’re offering an alternative. Would love to check them out personally! Please pass on my best wishes for their business :)

Thanks for the lovely comment Anya! xx
