Strangely enough, having now lived in two lands that share a complete obsession with decorative objects in this form, I think I have only ever seen one real Fly Agaric in real life…
That is until we were in France last week, where the forests there seemed to be full of these beautiful specimens. Did you know that they are perhaps not as immediately deadly as you might think (not that I would recommend eating them obviously!)? Apparently you would have to consume around fifteen to twenty of these colourful toadstools before they could possibly kill you….
Poisonous or not, I think they are quite stunning…
And we did wonder what other-worldly channels the fairies might receive through these!…
What fabulous (I want to say creatures) toadstools. Somehow they remind me of Noddy… is that right?
Well he is kind of an elf type thing isn’t he? :D
How beautiful! I have long been fascinated with fairies and toadstools (yes, I was a Brownie) and these are just the cutest things. I’m not sure, now that you mention it, if I’ve seen this particular kind or not.
I think you can see them in the UK, but very rarely! I certainly haven’t seen one at home before! Thank you Mandy! :)
They are beautiful, even if a little deadly. Classic fairy tale stuff.
Thanks Erica! Was great to see them! :)
They look like something from a story book. I almost expect to see a little fairy sitting on top. Beautiful!
They do don’t they? That would have made a good silent sunday! :)
What fab mushers they are so pretty, shame you didnt spot any fairies but did you see the mushrooms making a ring shape as thats where the fairies are supposed to have danced the night away.
Ps thanks for being my fairy and being the only person to visit my blog xx
We did see a half ring… You are very welcome, but I am not the only one surely? :) xx
They are beautiful – so familiar from pictures and fairytales, but I haven’t seen a real one either.
Wild mushroom foraging is something I’d really like to try – there are a few courses locally, but most are at weekends so I’ll probably leave it until next year.
Changing the subject completely, I was going through my growing pile of gift catalogues, and spotted a 3d Bavarian castle puzzle which made me think of you!’ The Present Finder’ if you’d like to have a look x
I will keep an eye out for that puzzle, thank you! If it’s of the one we visited recently, it would be nice to see it without the scaffolding! :D We once did a mushroom course, it was really interesting but I can’t say that I would trust myself anymore with them afterwards! :D
All the fairytale toadstools are red with white spots and I’ve never ever see a real one. It didn’t think they really existed. I’m overwhelmed. Thanks for this.
I am glad you like them. I couldn’t believe my luck! Cursing only that I had left my “real” camera at home! Typical! :D
Like Funky Wellies, I’ve never seen a real one, but they do seem to be beloved in German culture – they really do show up everywhere, especially at Christmas and New Year’s. I have a beloved Christmas ornament – a Glückspilz – that looks just like your 2nd photo!
They were HUGE in Denmark at Christmas as well, it seems really odd that something poisonous gets featured so highly, but they are beautiful! :D
They really are gorgeous, aren’t they? But scary too. I particularly like the satellite dish ones – it seems like you stumbled across a high-tech fairy fort there!
Thanks Mary, it seems they were all so heavy they pulled each other over. The Five Year old noticed the satellite dish similarities! :D
I have never seen a real one, but would love too! Fab photos. xx
Thank you! They seem to LOVE pine forests if you have one of those near you! :) xx
Oh you are so lucky to see these toadstools, when I chance upon them them in the woods here and my hopes are raised for a ‘photoshoot’ they are invariably spoilt by the SLUGS eating them!! XX
Blinking slugs… :D xxx
They look as if they’ve come straight out of a book of fairytales. Gorgeous colours.
Thank you… There is something so fairytale like about them! :)
these are beautiful. how wonderful to be walking along and see the bright red bursting through all the brown. are they really all over the place? i wonder, do animals eat them?
Thank you Mignon! It’s funny, I actually thought the first one that we saw was a child’s ball or something from a distance as it was so bright! I think animals do eat them, as there were plenty that looked a bit pecked! :D
