The soundtrack to today has been mini-avalanches of snow sliding off the roof. It’s amazing how loud it is, and it’s also amazing how relentless winter has been here this week. Lots of sliding about in cars, and not many signs of Spring just yet!
A few pictures from another kind of sliding at beautiful Schloss Nymphenburg a few days ago! The lakes and canals are all frozen at the moment, and hundreds of people were making the most of the opportunity to get their skates on, or indulge in a spot of Eisstockschießen! Everyone was having fun, and the crowds of people on the ice reminded me of the pictures of medieval frost fairs in London.
We had left our skates at home unfortunately, but that didn’t stop us from some old school sliding fun (thanks to a little bit of help from Daddy and Uncle G!)… Unfortunately we had one minor bashed head casualty thanks to some over-enthusiastic independent sliding on the part of one little girl, but nothing that serious that a big hot chocolate didn’t sort out when we got home!
PS. Spring – whenever you’re ready??

Wow! That looks amazing fun (and from a committed snow-hater that’s really saying something)! x

Thanks Pia! Hope Spring’s not having you on! I want to see Daffodils when I am back for a couple of days next week! Emma :)

Where I live in the Fens, there was a great tradition for skating, the golden age being the second half of the 19th century. The huge flat meadows would be flooded to create massive skating rinks for recreational and competitive use. Shame it doesn’t happen to the same extent any more.
After a -16 degrees in our town last weekend, we are now basking in a +12. Lovely!

I saw some people skating on the Fens on the news, it’s great that that tradition was revived, even if it was only for a day or two! Jealous of your +12, not quite there yet! Emma :)

Thats the title of one of my favourite songs darling. Fascinating reading the comments from ’round the world’. Do hope it snows in Jerusalem for the children there to have fun! Dull, cold & grey in UK. Mx
bavaria says
I know. I think I must have heard it being played around a million times ;) I hope it snows for them too! xxxx

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of those frost fairs – difficult to believe the ice could be thick enough here to allow it, although think it was colder then.
bavaria says
They have always fascinated me too, think we had a kind of mini-ice age at one point…

As I’ve said before, if it’s going to be freezing, I at least like to have some ambiance. -5 C today in Seoul but no snow on the ground. Everything’s looking very grey and dirty. We desperately need some snow to cover things up!
bavaria says
You are completely right! More forecast here tomorrow, and it’s half term here now so it can snow all it likes! :)
Midlife Singlemum says
We’re expecting snow in Jerusalem for the first time in four years. The children are so excited it’s all everyone’s been talking about all day. At most it will be a couple of cm and gone by lunchtime.
bavaria says
Wow, I can imagine the excitement! I hope you are going to attempt to at least build a snowman (however big or small he may be) before it all disappears! Have fun! :)

Did the big race happen? Or am I confused with Holland? I saw twin lambs today, an hour old, wobbly legs! Spring is sprunging here! Enjoy the ice, it doesn’t look ready to leave yet.
bavaria says
Thank you! That may well be Holland, who I believe are also enjoying a spot of skating at the moment! Very jealous of your baby lamb spotting, how lovely! :)
