So here it is, the final glimpse of my trip to Sarajevo. Please note, I didn’t take my “big camera” with me on this occasion, preferring instead to try to blend in. What I didn’t anticipate was that cameras appear to be the status symbol of choice here, and everyone but everyone has one slung around their neck!
A few little Sarajevo tips before the Photo Essay commences!… :
Where to stay: We stayed at the very pleasant Hotel Michele, Hotel Europa also looks really nice!
What to See: As much of this wonderful city as you possibly can. See my previous posts, and make sure you talk to Insider Guides when you get there;
What to avoid: Going into religious buildings without the correct attire obviously. Too much baklava, you will get a tummy ache.
What not to worry about: Safety. Not at any time did I feel unsafe or intimidated, even wandering lonely streets at ungodly hours. Do keep personal belongings close in crowded areas, but this is no different to any city really.
What to bring : Plenty of change! Honestly, at times it seems like there really is no change to be had here, and if you pay in a note larger than 200 BAM (around 10 Euros) you will send people scurrying from door to door to find some, leaving you feeling very guilty!
What to buy: Lokum, spices, beautiful scarves, metal ware (including coffee pots!)!
What to eat: Burek, cevapi, baklava, lokum, the lovely tea, strong coffee, and an amazing yoghurt drink topped with cinnamon (the name of which escapes me)!
What to do next: Book your flights! Enjoy!

Thanks to the last 4 blogs and your fantastic photographs you have really put Sarajevo on the map – a place that most of us would never have even considered is now top of our places to visit list – it is on mine anyway! Thank you for opening our eyes and hopefully swelling their tourist trade just a little which I am sure they justly deserve. xx

Thank you… I don’t know why, I am trying to see as much as possible of the surrounding area while we are here, and Sarajevo just really appealed to me… :)

Wonderful photos, especially the one with the wall full of bullet holes, that depicts a part of the city’s history. Great city, nice people too.

I really, really want to go now. Such vivid images. I feel like I already know the place. Love the pastel chairs – so unusual.

It all looks wonderful. The top tips are good too – always good to have the lowdown from someone who’s been. The Husband spent 6 months in the Balkans in 1999 and visited Sarajevo a few times but I don’t think he got to see the same side that you did, unfortunately…
bavaria says
Thanks Sally! I bet he wouldn’t recognise it now…
