You might be pleased to hear that the “Beast From the East” won’t be visiting England just yet, he’s having far too much fun here. As I type, the temperature is around -15 and falling, but even when it’s as cold as this Munich doesn’t half look beautiful in the sun…
(The Sunrise this morning on the way to school (and once we had managed to get the frozen garage door open!) – the first time I have ever witnessed “snow fog” too, which luckily didn’t hang around for long)…
I might have been a little over-enthusiastic in my bid to capture the stunning day, and made Mr R climb the 302 steps to the top of the PetersKirche with me, in the hope that we would see the mountains from the top. It’s a long way up, and the stairs are very narrow in places, so it’s not for the faint-hearted (definitely glad I didn’t have the Small People with me for this one!), but at least we weren’t cold once we got to the top, and the views when you get there are well worth the effort!
No Mountains this time, just a birds eye view of the city, the shoppers at the Christmas Markets below (more on them later!), and thousands of white rooftops… I haven’t adjusted any of the colour on these pictures by the way, the sky really was that blue…

What beautiful views! I love the wintery quality to the light that you’ve captured there.
bavaria says
Thank you Erica, the light is so beautiful at this time of year (when it’s a clear day!!)… :)

And the sky is truly gorgeous, such an intense blue. The view certainly was worth it, it looks like a city that has some beautiful buildings. Keep your beast though I can’t be doing with -15. Brrrr. x
bavaria says
Thanks Sarah, it was a beautiful day. I might do that trip once more if I know the mountains are visible one day! :D
Mama Syder says
Wow, thats cold! Brrr! Beautiful photos, just stunning! x
bavaria says
Thank you Mama S… Warming up slightly now, it was only -4 earlier! :D x

Amazing photos! The first one is beautiful. Imagine the school run takes a little longer when it’s so bitterly cold and frosty? Though I’m sure everything runs smoothly – unlike here where things seem to grind to a halt when the weather’s at all out of the ordinary… Love the sound of the Christmas markets, look forward to reading more x
bavaria says
Definitely! Luckily I am used to the car slip sliding all over the place from Denmark, but it doesn’t make it any easier! :D Things do run relatively smoothly though I guess! Just catching up after a hectic week, but the Christmas Market post is in progress! :D x
Mary says
Brrrr!!! That really is cold. But SO beautiful.

i got married in -15 so i know how cold that is. if i wasn’t feeling christmasy already your pics certainly add to it and remind me of the gingerbread cottage Sophie made with all the beautiful building covered in snow and looks like a good dusting of icing sugar
bavaria says
Oooh, where did you get married? That’s quite cold! :) x
Trish - Mum's Gone to says
Blimey that’s cold! We’ve had a lot of freezing fog the last few days and I thought minus 1 was a bit chilly for me! Mind you, I’m getting a new downstairs loo and bathroom fitted so the plumber keeps turning the boiler off. Great planning!
bavaria says
Thank you! But think how warm and toasty you will be when it’s done! :) This morning when I left for school it was almost -19!! :D
Grace says
Wow, wonderful pictures – just looking at them make my knees wobbly!! xx
bavaria says
Thanks Mum. After the experience with you in Neuschwanstein, there is no way I am going up there with you! :D

Midlife Singlemum says
It really is beautiful and I thank you for the photos and making the effort. I am a non-climber so I would never see such views otherwise.
bavaria says
I am pleased I made the effort to get to the top then! Thank you! :)
h0pefulmummy says
it looks so beautiful, the architecture and roof tops, and it reminds me that we should always look skywards when walking in a city because we miss so much if we don’t. hope that you have your winter woolies on and that hot chocolate is keeping you warm x
bavaria says
Thanks so much Sheonad, I do tend to look skyward a lot. How I have managed not to walk into a lot of pillars and posts and/or get run over I will never konw! :D Plenty of Hot Chocolate to be found in these parts, thankfully! :D
