Back to the subject of a recent “Silent Sunday” of mine…. Granted a skirt and tights might not be your usual climbing uniform, but having dropped her little brother off at a party here and quite fancying having a go herself, the Eight Year Old threw caution to the wind…
Boulderwelt is a massive indoor (and outdoor) complex in the centre of Munich, and is so well done it even had me quite tempted into having a go. Having been “half spider” from a very young age, being faced with something that she was positively encouraged to climb without her mother freaking out about how high up she was, or whether she should actually be up there at all meant the Eight Year Old was positively in her element. For 13 Euros for the whole day climbing it works out at pretty good value too!
Climbing was something her father used to be passionate about too in his University Days (well she didn’t get it from me!) and so it was really nice for him to be able to get involved and “show her the ropes” as it were.
As this is something we will be doubtless be returning to time and again as a family, for those of us not so “climbing inclined” they have a pretty good cafe just out of reach, but close enough to shout support from the sidelines if necessary…
And as a reward to those of us that had pushed personal climbing boundaries (or perhaps useful as an incentive), I highly highly recommend the authentic Portugese Custard Tarts in the Meisterverein just around the corner!
That looks like so much fun! I love rock climbing although it’s been a while since I tried it, I probably don’t have the confidence that I did when I was younger!
Thanks Jennifer! :)
That looks like so much fun, not that I’m fit enough to be able to do it but I loved climbing as a youngster, I’m more into the tarts these days though. Great photos xxx
Thanks Mama S! :D xxx
What an amazing place. I was a prolific tree climber as a child but fear that my limit would be around 1m now. I think I’d be sat with you enjoying the cake and praying no bones would be broken upon my return.
It’s funny how much things change as you get older. Going on a swing just makes me want to vomit half the time now (yes I always have to have a go though just in case!)… :D
Those walls look so impressive – loving how brightly coloured they are and the variety of holdings. Sounds like very great value as well. Mine love climbing.
I think it’s great for both confidence and tiring them out! :D Thank you Joy! :)
That looks like a fantastic place. I would be so tempted to have a go although I think I’d need a few harnesses!
Not a harness in sight, but lots of lovely big thick crash mats, and lots of fit blokes standing about who could probably catch you! :D
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the look of this.
It totally appeals to my inner adrenalin junkie!!
I can safely say I think you would love it then Donna! :D Thank you! :)
I would love to have a go at that too – I’m not sure how high I’d get but it’s always fascinated me, what a fantastic place and that tart! It’s worth going just for that…
I know it should, but it’s never really occurred to me what strength you need to do this either, but the people crawling across stuff upside down must have practiced for ages! :D Thanks Mari :) x
ⓞMG that climbing wall room is amazing Sophie says she would love to try that and that your daughter is soooooo brave and clever
I think Sophie & The Eight Year Old would get on v. well! :) xx
looks fab, I dont like heights but have always wanted to try climbing a wall x
The massive thick mats underneath definitely helped me think it might be worth a try. Thanks Angie! :)
I’m with you on the coffee and tart.
It’s a tough job… :D
That look like my perfect day out. And only 13 euros. Wow.
I should have said that that was the child’s price, but to be honest I don’t think the full price was that much more! :D
Ooh climbing wall or custard tarts? What is best? I think I probably prefer the latter but this place looks superb.
Now if someone would wait at the top with a tray of them, it wouldn’t take me long to climb up at all! :D
That is amazing. To be honest, it looks so pretty that I thought it was an art gallery at first. It’s seriously impressive!
There is something lovely about it, thank you Carolin! :)
We did a lot of climbing when the kids were little, They loved it! Gives them an amazing sense of freedom to climb and this place looks amazing, very jealous that you have such a wonderful facility so close to you
It’s a huge confidence builder isn’t it? Thanks Mary! :)
This looks amazing! I saw a photo on FB and it reminded me of a video game. Shame it is so far from us so we won’t be visiting – not this year anyway!
Thank you. Maybe one day! :)
Brave girl! We have a play centre near us with climbing walls but they don’t look anywhere near as swish as these ones. Also, that Custard Tart? Wow! My mouth is watering…
Thanks Jayne. It’s always been something she has had a thing for, I am just happier with the crash mats at this place! :D
That looks brilliant, even just to look at, the way it’s been designed. Hope she had a great time. I’ve never really been into climbing but I am so into Portugese custard tarts, I could eat five at once. X
They are one of my favourite things too! Thanks S! :) xx
It looks like a fabulous place, I would love to have a go (and to taste the tarts afterwards, of course…). xx
Let me know when you’re next in Munchen then! :) xx
What cool looking place. I’ve been in climbing centres before but this one looks so colourful and inviting – I want to have a bash myself!
It’s different isn’t it, and no over the top health and safety rubbish! :D Thanks Annie! :)
That looks amazing, such beautiful photos; the colours are fab. They are incredible these climbing walls, the children have been to a local one a few times and I always have my heart in my mouth, but they love it.
And they are completely exhausted at the end of it aren’t they? Thanks Nikki! :D
What a fun day and a lovely drink and pastry to boot! I fancy trying climbing (she says bravely from the comfort of an ipad).
I was seriously tempted too! Thanks Louisa! :)
The climbing looks fab – hubby likes climbing and he’s taken our oldest a few times – these walls look great. But, to be honest, you had me at Portuguese custard tart, one of my all time favourite things!
It’s a great place, and definitely worth going back to (and I will be having another Portuguese Custard Tart too!) :D Thank you…
